I have 4 hens and 1 rooster. Had them for 3 to 4 weeks. Everyone seems healthy and happy.
But on 2 of my girls, I'm noticing small bald patches directly behind their combs. One is about the size of a nickel.
I think this is happening When he is climbing on them to mate.
Does this get worse?
Is this normal?
Is there anyway we can help and should we?
Thanks again in advance:)

You can buy hen saddles to protect their backs, but there isn't much you can do about the bald spots on their heads. We have one hen who is the favorite of our alpha roo, and the poor thing looks like she's going through chemotherapy, she's so bald. It will get better once she molts and her new feathers grow in, especially since the rooster is now old and mature enough that he's no longer so... obsessed... with mating. When they're young and vigorous, they tend to do the most damage.
