My house smells like a barn!!

Charcoal is an amazing odour absorber, better than baking soda. Is it possible to place open containers of charcoal (covered with mesh) around the brooder?

You do realize that every cloth thing (couches and such included) in your house is absorbing those odors and it's going to next to impossible to get the smell out?

Well right now my whole house is needing remodel and there is no cloth furniture

The old livingroom furniture is gone because it's the next room to get done. But thanks for that

LOl... I know...but like I said...they'll be really people oriented

My garage is too dark to keep 'em in....I wouldn't feel right about that...so this year...it's in the house. I just didn't realize how much poults stink...

If you think it smells and you live there, then you can bet your company and friends you have over will certainly think it stinks. I personaly don't think anything can mask the odor of poultry inside a house, it just plain stinks. I do keep the just hatched ones in a brooder in a back room but only for 3 or 4 day's then it's outside for them. I would feel bad if my friend don't visit because of the smell.

Well good thing for me I don't get a LOT of company! Like I said in my earlier post, I tend to be impulsive and that's why I have to deal with this

Believe me...the turkey coop WILL be done ASAP

Next year I will not be brooding my layers so any will be brooded for meat/sale and will be brooded elsewhere!
The chicks/ducklings aren't bad...as soon as they are big enough they go outside in the already built pens for them.I have to keep the babies in for longer than a few days...it just gets too cold here to do otherwise.I keep them in until they are fully feathered.

btw, i'm in exactly the same situation as you. it's just so hard to resist those cute little chicks!! though i only have chickens, no turkeys this year. all the best in your battle against odour and time!!!

Ya'll made me think about my Daddy. Not because he had chicks in the house, but because he could really stink up the house, especially the bathroom. Know what I mean?

He used a simple method to cover up the odor. He struck kitchen matches and let them burn about 1/2 way then blew them out. He ran water over the matches for safety's sake and threw them away. NO MORE STINKY!!
