Today when i got home from work i was pleasantly surprised to see a new chick in the chicks cage. We just had one of our baby chicks pass away so my husband wanted to surprise me with another one wich shocked me beacuse he told me "that's it, no more chickens"LOL. Yeah, i kinda have this chicken obsession. Anyway, the new baby is a Barred Rock. She keeps trying to jump up on top of the food and water containers. She is VERY spunky. Rooster? Possibly. I just love her. Here is a few pictures of her.I don't know much about Barred Rocks so if anyone could give me the scoop on them, that would be great. Oh, and i don't have a name yet so and ideas would be great. Thanks!!

I would say definitely a girl you got there. A young barred rock rooster would have been showing more white stripes already in the wing feathers. She is a Cutie!

Very cute. Maybe a pullet. Looks dark, small spot on head are they legs also blackish? We have 4 and they are very friendly. Ours are 7 weeks old now. Matildia, Mary Ann, Mattie, and Maggie. All M names. I used to be able to tell them all apart and now it is getting harder. Leg bands will be in order when everyone is full grown because all 9 Buff Orps look the same too.

We have two baby barred rocks as well and previously had two adults. They are wonderful birds, hence replacing them. They are very sweet and maybe a little timid. They are wonderful layers, large brown eggs and are hardy in cold weather, we live in Nh and it gets cold here! You can tell if it is female if it has a yellow spot on it's head. No yellow spot and it is most likely a roo! Best wishes.

We've got a BR chick that's just a titch older than yours and she's a very, very nice bird. She's replacing the BR who died in March, who was also a very nice bird. Gotta love them BRs!
