My husband must love me!

Yes, we chicken wired the ground, too. I was unsure how the chicks would do with it, but I certainly didn't want to take any chances with predators.

We had our first raccoon scoping out the coop last night..... everything was tight and secure. We trapped and then........................I'll leave it at that!!!!

(We have a "crazy cat lady" on our street who feeds a ton of cats and then went and registered the colony once we started trapping them for being a nuisance, leaving presents on our doorstop, etc) so naturally, our raccoon population is larger than it should be

Looks really nice! It looks like you put the chicken wire on the ground too......?

When your chickens get older and start to dig, chickens love to scratch and dig, chicken wire is a very thin wire and can cut chicken feet. Which will lead to other problems. An apron laid flat across the ground attached to the outside of the run will stop diggers from getting in and will let your chickens do what chickens are best at doing. A foot or more around the outside of your run is all you need for protection. Once the grass grows up through it no one will ever no it there and any digging from the outside will be stopped. I also live where there are many raccoons. This method has always work for me and many others.
