and YES I have the bedding to go down; just wasnt putting that down til the morning...

Now this is the intitial brooder...but I dont think they can last long in here...too many..so maybe a few days (FREE brooder to borrow)...

This is the second brooder; I'm worried it'll be cold though...its in the garage..and its VERY cold in there..so we were gonna put TWO heat lamps..& a portable heater too..
we plan on putting deep litter too...but I'm concerned about the concrete floor...I've read both good/bad things so I'm not sure..we really have NO other option to put them
in/at. So deep litter method (I'll have to read up on it MORE tho..I'm not too knowledgeable on it exactly)...

it is 8x8x2 which is plenty of space for them...
Do you have any ideas on what else we can do to make it warm enough??

First one is great! they'll probably last about # weeks in there until they start to fly out! YEP, make sure you put extra heat lamps in the second to keep 'em cozy!

How many chicks are you getting? The second brooder is pretty big but with 2 heat lamps and a portable heater should be enough, i think. I am going to do the same thing for the most part when i get my new batch at the end of March. One Very important thing to remember is that you need to eliminate all drafts. That is very important. Also see if they huddle around the lamps or are playing all over the place.You should do fine if you do all of that.

we have 25 coming; but if they throw in "extras" ack...

the garage door seals very well now; we had put a strip on the floor to prevent drafts; but it is NOT an insulated door...so it is cold out there...

How about putting your second brooder up on some cinder blocks to get it up off the cold concrete floor? Heat could circulate under it and maybe help keep it warmer? Another added bonus to this is with the brooder up higher, you arn't a big scary monster standing over them when you go out there. I had 6 chicks I brooded in a big cage at about weist level, and they are the friendlies chicks I have ever had. Just my 2 cents worth, if it's worth that much, lol

I can't see the bottom of it very well, but is it a solid bottom? If not, could you put a plywood bottom on it?

It is just the concrete floor of the garage...we were planning on putting a deep litter method of bedding down...

If you put a bottom on it, you could raise it up and still use the deep litter method with it.

I would put your first brooder up on cinder blocks to get them off the cold floor. I would use a piece of plywood and use pine shavings for the bedding. Where did you order from?
