my insane mosaic project

Started on cleaning our eggshell stash yesterday. We normally keep them and crush them to add to the garden soil before planting squash and tomatoes so I put the uncrushed ones into a big bowl of water and left them to soak overnight. Most of them the membranes have peeled from them pretty well. Then we gave everything a good coat of paint last night and left them to dry. Will do a second coat of paint today and paint some more colors. We also got our egg forms from the craft store and are starting to think about designs on them. I got some small ones to practice with first and then some really big eggs to make the main project on. Surprisingly the cats have minded their manners and not gotten into the middle of the eggshells on the counter. Kind of odd for them. Lol.

Started a small egg mosaic for practice today. Here's a small pic. It's a little blurry (but at least the cheetos in the background are clear ... Lol) I"m just starting on this and am not quite sure how I"m going to finish it yet. I was thinking some abstract flowers growing out of the ground but we'll see if I'm good enough to do that yet. Ha.

So progress ... actually I've finished this one. Of course it's really small. I did flowers on this one and am starting on one with a chicken on it. Here's a few pics. Sorry for the blur ... for some reason I can't get a clear shot.

You are already a pro, I am so impressed that you just jumped right in and look at the beauty you've created. Wonderful!! I love the designs you came up with! Such tiny pieces you have used, I think my flat surface may be easier ? hmm. that doesn't really make sense cause eggshells already have a curve in them. Keep up the good work, have you figured out how to post pics on the mosaic site? I haven't, you have to shrink em and I don't know how.

No I haven't figured out how to size the photos either. I haven't hadmuch time to play with it though. I think what's so hard about the little eggs is that I have to hold them while working on them. There is no way to lay them down and keep them still. I have to crunch up the shells to the size I want and then put them on instead of breaking as I glue. I finished my chicken one too and am starting on a basket one. I'm still just playing with the little eggs right now trying to decide on a design for the big egg. Yours looks great. I can't wait to see it done.

Nice designs on the eggs. Bet you could sell them at a craft fair, just something really unique to see.

Update on my insane project. In need of dark brown Marans eggs. I have plenty of inner body work to keep me busy while the hen that layed these, lays more. Hopefully, the Mom of this hen wont forget about me and will call when she has more!
