My Isa Brown 'hen' is crowing... a LOT.

I agree - Buff Orpington roos - no doubt. Yes, the pics help out a lot. The large combs/waddles, the pointy hackle/saddle feathers. Even the coloration is a giveaway since BO hens don't have the darker feathers - they are a more uniform buff color.

The brown one in the center of the photos is the one I am talking about (All three are the same chix; the ones in the background are Easter-Eggers). The other medium brown that I have that is supposed to be an Isa Brown also has similar coloring, but she is smaller and has a small comb and waddle. She lays pink/peach-colored eggs. Do you think she would be a female Buff Orpington, then, not an Isa Brown female? The others chix all seem to be hens, as we have 8 chix and are getting 3-7 eggs per day.

...Never mind, I am editing this note since I just went to a page with a picture of the Buff Orpington breed and the female I mentioned (smaller but similar feather color, etc. - same chick purchase - not laying pink/peach eggs)... it looks exactly like her. My son's girlfriend's daughter named her-- Princess Alyssia ( :) ). She is really a sweet hen!

An ISA Brown is a commercial bird, from the ISA/Hendrix conglomerate. Sadly, there are many folks claiming to have/breed/sell ISAs when, in reality, there are extremely few registered, licensed outlets for the bird. TownLine Hatchery, in Zeeland, MI is the only retail outlet for ISAs with which I am familiar.

An ISA Brown is a 4 way cross. They are indeed, sex linked, in that they can be easily sexed at hatch. The cockerels feather snow white, much like a Delaware in appearance.

Hmmm... good to know. Thank you! I may check into that hatchery, since we are in Grand Rapids. Maybe the males we had were Isa Browns, since the two of them turned white, but we traded them to a farmer months ago since we could not keep a rooster! Guess the joke's on me, huh? I will look up that hatchery, though... :)
