My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

Oh Cyn, I am so sorry.

I reckon she is Lily's aunt. I am not sure how much more time I will have with Lily myself. They are such characters, those pics you posted of the started kale, they have that look of "I didnt do anything wrong, I am a chicken, dont you expect me to eat these goodies, I was just sure they were for us?" kind of look. You just have to laugh about the troubles they would get into.

Who says chickens dont have expressions, and they remind me so much of Lily. It started raining hard this morning, and I have a mostly blind nighthouse chicken named Claire that hangs out under the porch during the day.

I felt bad for her, so I went out, got on my hands and knees and hollered under there, "Claire, do you want to come in?" then Lily came running out and straight into my arms. I laughed and told her "ok, you silly girl, you arent the chicken I was expecting but you can come in, baby" and brought her in gave her goodies.

Many hugs to you in these times.

I just read this whole thread while sitting at work and am almost in tears. We get so attached to our beautiful birds that they become family. I lost 4 of my girls to a bear last fall and didn't realize until that night how attached I actually was to them. I will be praying for you and Ivy and all of your birds.

Thank you, acid_chipmunk. Welcome to BYC! Yes, my original girls are ones I'm most attached to, but I've lost half of those to internal laying, just like Ivy has.

Jill, that Lily is a character! Ivy's granddaughter, Barbara, has that mischevious look in her eyes, too.

Thanks Cyn! You'd think I could remember how old she is, considering that she's only about 3 weeks older than my little horde!

Was that the Blue Wheaton I saw? Oh my!! What a pretty bird! And TINY!!! It's good to see her doing so well.

You'd never know she had any kinds of problems at all in the beginning, would you?

And thus another generation does their best to fill the voids left by the departure of those we love so deeply. It's good to know that Ivy has descendants to carry on her line and that her story continues, even after she leaves us.

Yes, that's my Blue Wheaten cockerel, Levi. And Tiny is doing very well. She even flies up to the roost bar now--didn't think she'd be able to see it well enough, but she's really suprised us.

Today, Ivy wouldn't touch the egg salad I offered her, but I remembered that she likes loaf bread and that got a rise out of her. Later on, we got her inside the coop alone and she ate quite a few bites before the others discovered there were goodies inside. She is so weak, I would be suprised if she lives another day, but then, she's surprised us before.

Here's another couple of video clips of the babies for you, Amy:

Ivy is still with us, miraculously, but this time, I'm 100% sure she isn't going to recover. Took three short video clips of her this morning. She will drink, but refused eggs. She did perk up when I offered her pieces of plain bread, though, as you can see in one of these clips:
