My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

Good morning, Cynthia- hope everyone made it through the night. This heat has got to go away!!!
Pick that Levi up and carry him around upside down in front of the girls. Silly teen ager!! That was the trick that worked with Luke-

He's getting the treatment every time he misbehaves. We will try, of course. It's worth a shot. Could be he is just being a teenage butthead (no offense to actual teenagers, LOL). Honestly, I already had considered selling him. I don't really need a 5th rooster! There's enough crowing with Zane, Dutch, Suede and Isaac.

Well you could just load Suede, Isaac and Zane up in my car and then there are no worries...you would only have 2 roosters

I bet Dutch would show an interest in Levi if he smelled like lavender. hahahahahaha Silly little boy must learn to behave himself.

I am putting up my canopy in a few minutes just to give the crew more shade I think. It is going to be in the 90s here today and I am worried sick about them with this heat.

Please! I beg of you ladies! Please! Please! PLEEEEEAAASSEEEE!!! Find a way to ship all of that wonderful heat up here! Pretty please? With sugar on top??

I fear that if this weather doesn't change soon, my little flock is never going to see fresh garden goodies this year!

Four gardens and every single one of them looks like they were planted just a few days ago, despite having been started back in mid May! (May 15 is our standard last frost date.

) It's pathetic!

I'll happily send as much of the cold from here down to y'all. Just please, send me some warmth and sunshine! PLEAAAASE!!!!

Olivia may be going soon. You would not believe how completely huge her abdomen is-it's like she's all tummy with legs attached. She didn't come out today with the others. Found her in a nest, gasping with most every breath. Then, suddenly, I see Dutch and a BR hen, on the bar standing looking at her and a Delaware trying to push her out of the nest. I removed her to a seldom used nest and she stayed, but the sounds she was making sounded so bad, I was in tears. Brought her inside the house and put her in the playpen out of the heat. If she's going to die, she can die cool at least. She did eat some cool yogurt at least a moment ago. There can't be much room for her organs inside her and she can't sit without compromising her breathing !

I think it's about time to let her go. Poor sweet angel hen.

I am so so sorry Cyn.

But it is all about her...do what is best for Livvie. Give her poufy head a kiss for me and let her know sister Kate will be waiting for her.

Well, call me crazy, but we decided to try to drain her again. I figured if she choked to death in my arms, that was the inevitable outcome anyway, so we did. At least, maybe she'd feel a tad more comfortable if we did, until we could get up the nerve to euthanize her. First time, couldn't get more than a few drops. She didn't react much to the needle stick this time, maybe she can't feel her abdomen as much with it that swollen. Tom tried again and didn't work. I felt her and told him where to try and BINGO! We drained her and removed 247 cc of fluid, probably about half of what is actually in there.

Below is a picture of the gunk that came out of Olivia's abdomen....if you are sensitive, don't look.

Oh Cyn!

You know I'm right there with you in spirit, if not in body. How I hope that she goes peacefully. And I hope that you and Tom can find the courage to help her along if she should need a gentle nudge in that direction.

How is she doing now that you're removed all of that fluid? I so hope she's more comfortable at least.

That just bowled me over completely- that poor little hen! Livvie, you are making me cry!

Is she reacting to the release of the pressure?
