My Journey Begins--1st time Incubating--Join Me!!

That's a great idea! Of course, I might add that sleep doesn't come easy with tornados all around! The next time, tho, we have just your garden variety thunderstorms come thru that will still knock power out, I think I'll try your suggestion. I can't see myself staying awake all spring! I saw somewhere that you could purchase and alarm mechanism that you just plug in to a wall socket that emits a loud alarm when the power goes off and has a built in delay of 15 seconds to account for just flickering. But it costs 50.00!

I've never lived in the Tornado part of the country. Been through my share of earthquakes growing up in Southern California though!! Now in the northwest, I"m not sure what the natural disaster potential is except for freezing to death, we just got 2 more inches of snow last night. It's almost April people, come on!!! I'm so ready for warm spring weather!! Kristy

I've lived all over Western Washington, LOVE IT! The flooding sucks but that's just a couple weeks in the spring and fall. Other than that, I miss it and would consider moving back. Especially now that it should be spring and we still have snow on the ground.

You will really get excited when they hatch. It is one of the most amazing things you will ever see. Any child should see the miracle of life.

Just dont quote Frankenstein.

"They are alive, alive"

I think I'm going to wait to candle on day 10, if I can, because of the fact that I have an untrained eye and I thought by that time, there should be something to see, if they are viable. I'm fighting with humidy, tho. If I add the least little bit of water, the % skyrockets. I've had to suck almost all the water out of it and maybe add 10 ml every couple of days to try to keep it between 45 and 50%. I had originally thought I'd shoot for between 55 and 60% first 18 days but The general consensus is that's too high. I live in a pretty humid area here in south MS and I feel sure that is whyI have to fight to keep it from constantly spiking up. Next time, I'm probably going to try to go without water at all until day 18 and just see what level it is. The air is so thick here sometimes it's hard to breathe because of the high humidity. I gotta say, my Hova 1588 is doing a great job keeping the temp constant, so that's one thing I don't have to worry about!

Day 6

To the gal in Alaska...I'm in Eastern Washington, and it just snowed yesterday! Goodness, when does spring ever begin around here!!!

Tomorrow is day 7, and I am going to candle. I'm really nervous about it. I only turned them once yesterday because I was so sick. I feel a lot better today. My dd12 has been doing all the egg turning. It will be very interesting to see what is inside the eggs. I only have 2 brown eggs and 1 green egg, so I ought to be able to really see stuff. My humidity has been from 40-60%, which I hope is all right, and the temps have been from 99-102 on the wire. Hoping the eggs didn't get too hot since they're higher when it was 102. I'm trying not to stress too much about all of that. It is what it is, and it's my first time, so we'll be happy with whatever we get! Kristy

That's good advice! I'm trying to adopt the same attitude because it is really a crap shoot on the first few times till we get it right. Heck, everybody's gotta start somewhere and learn from that point. One day, we'll be old hands at this!!
