LOL I candled a couple on days 3 nd 4 and had veins

then days 7-10 and now again on day 15. I just had to see them.

I candled again tonight and I truly think the only egg developing a chick is the white egg. There is a definite air sac and a chick with veins. The other eggs I don't see anything, no air sac or veins or anything.

My problem was that I needed a brighter light. I am using my grandpa's really old candler. I think I will save up for a new one that works on bantams too.

My dh made me a candler last night; he made a wooden box with a light bulb inside and a hole and I checked again this morning. Unfornuately I only have a chick in one egg for sure and possiblely veins in another one. The other four are clear. Bummer, but like I posted earlier my rooster to hen ratio wasn't good.

I think I will try duck eggs next, I am addicted already!

--cant wait--my temp has been running 100.2-4 and humidity at 40-45%

I recandled and do see veins in some

!!! But some of my brown eggs are so dark it is really hard to tell. After that we cracked another and it was not fertile. I think I will look at them again this weekend when I need to add more h2o....

If you candle and see nothing, then decide to cull the egg at 10 days, what are you looking for (as a fertile egg) when you crack it open? A blood spot? I know an infertile will just appear as a simple white/yolk

To tell if an egg is fertile after you cracked it open....
If you haven't incubated it: there will be a little white dot, if the dot is bigger and looks more like a bulls eye it is fertile... Goggle this for pics, I was able to find quite a few that helped me.

If you crack them after incubated & you see nothing besides a regular egg, I would assume it wasn't fertile....

I cracked one open at 6 days and it had a little embryo in it

When I candled it I saw NOTHING!!!

I cracked another last night that again I saw nothing and really there was nothing there, just a regular looking egg

I can't wait to get my first couple of hatches out of the way so I know what the heck I am doing
