my journey with cancer

At 85 if he can't spread his own mustard there is not much you can do!

But, at 85, if you are ill, he qualifies for a variety of types of help. Contact meals - on - wheels. If you want to be distracted by arranging while not actually having to worry about him, arrange for them to feed him a while then let them do it! Other ideas - weird I know - but contact your local representative's office. Ask them if they can help you arrange for him while you are sick. Obviously, some are better than others, but most have people on staff who know ALL of the programs that are out there run by both the gov't and local charities and can hook you up. You may be surprised by what is out there!

My FIL is 83 and we just started this process for them. They were eligible for all kinds of stuff like food, help with the electric bills and free light bulbs.....

The people here, like coyote, are fabulous - use them! And look to see what services the center you are getting your treatment from offers - they usually offer everything from support to hook ups with rides.

Hang in there and keep us posted.

thanks for the prayers and info , will have to look into that and see what is available here....trying to convience glenn that he needs help for ANYTHING is a up hill battle going on for 27 years it has always been i can do it or we can do it by ourselves , up till the last few years i have been able to help with most stuff . even thoug i have told him repeatedly ,,,, one . if i wanted to be a mechanic i would have learned from my father, who was one, in one ear out the other..

The stories i could tell.....
wink.png
just unfortenately the older he gets the worse his attitude gets, his son says his whole family was the same, rude, i am right,, don't need outside help, he wants to be in my back pocket 24/7 and wants me in his, whish his son had said something,
barnie.gif
, but it hasn't been all bad just his rotten attitude is really not what i need now. i have made friends with a woman up the street....which he really isn't crazy about......but she is going to be doing the driving to th hospital, and dr appts next month and he of course is ..I can do the driving in a area unknown to us, barb knows the area, so i am thinking great, i don't have to drive, look for street names, watch traffic, everything, cause he never could navigate worth a darn in the first place.

anyway there is liable to be a little more of this attitude on my part,,,

. instead of
bow.gif
. i havekept quiet and pretty much did it his way, in other words spoiled him, and now will have to un spoil him.

last few days i have been feeling pretty good , getting some mowing done, will go on the 9th for pre op tests ct scan and exrays, then just wait till the 15th and start the lovely process of cleaning my system out for the big day, in a pretty good mood today, even sat him down and explained the scheduale for next month, and that i would need help in doing stuff, course he said he could do it,,, he might try but i have yet to see him do ANY kind of house work the other 2 times i was in the hospital and after at home.. so seriousy doubt it will happen this time.

so i am in a holding patern of sorts till next month,...............

Mines a bit younger than yours, but he had to learn to stand on his own while I was sick. I WAS SICK!!! I was good for 2 days after treatments, after that, the bottom fell out for the next week and a half. If I ate, it didn't stay in longer than 20min and you never knew which end it was going to come flying out of!! Sometimes both at the same time. Next week and a half I would slowly be getting better. Week after that, time for another treatment. Mine learned Laundry, Cooking, Cleaning. I've taught him how to grill on the BBQ grill (what man doesn't know that??!!, but then I had to teach him how to change the oil in his truck, his father took their problems to Pep Boys) I do have to go on a mission sometimes to find my clothes. He washes and hangs them to dry but doesn't fold or put them away. They are piled up on the futon in the sewing/laundry hanging room.

Just TELL him what you want him to do. I NEED YOU TO.........PLEASE. I'M JUST NOT ABLE TO. He'll come around.

Mine is a former Marine. Not an officer or a gentleman, your average Jarhead grunt! Took me 6months to break him down enough where I could take him out to dinner without being totally embarassed by his behavior. Shovel it in, belch, didn't know what a napkin was, I was lucky if he didn't fart more than once!!!! Now her is my Knight in shining armor. He took great care of me while I was sick. Your's will too, you may just need to tell him what needs being done.

FIANALLY! got that part done.....was sick as a dog for four days

Did you tell doc about the cough? Could be something stupid like a post nasal drip that can be fairly easily handled........ Hang in there!!

Endometrial cancer - 2003 - complete hysterectomy - the "gut you like a fish kind..."

Glad you got the operation over with! That scratchy throat might be from the gas/oxygen they gave you - I had a very sore throat and could hardly swallow. Ugh it will clear up soon. If not - please tell your Dr. Hope you got some good sleep.

Glad everything went well!! Those tubes and oxygen always make my throat hurt for a could days. I'm odd (hush Luna!) but I get dehydrated if kept on oxygen too long. Not a good thing for someone with asthma, lol.

If you are having sleeping, tell your doc. They can give you something to help. I've always had problems with sleep as I got older and after being run through the cancer ringer, I have an even worse problem. Lunesta is supposedly pretty good and better than the others (doesn't get you adicted as quickly. If I don't have my Ambien I am awake for days!! Sometimes even that doesn't work.

Most of us have problems with sleeping and stress. Most of us! Luna was so blasted Yippy Skippy through the whole thing it was disgusting!!
