My last chicken is gone

The dog was your step-father's dog, yes? I think until you are old enough to have a new living situation you may need to take a break from chickens. So sorry for this terrible holiday season for you. I would be as devastated as you are.

I'm sorry about your chickens. I would be down right mad! If I were you, I would talk to your step-dad. That isn't just something you can write off as a loss. He needs to help you get more chickens. He should also keep that stupid dog on a leash or something. What would he have done if it was someone else's' chickens?

Sorry, I'm just a little ticked off right now. I hate it when dogs kill chickens, even though it is in their nature.

The unfortunate reality is that you don't really have control over the situation. Young people are at the mercy of thoughtless (or worse) adults. Give yourself time to heal and grow, and when you are out on your own earning your own living, you can live in a place that is safe for your chickens. Maybe you can even find a career that lets you work with animals in some way -- Vet? Vet assistant? Animal control officer?

I am so sorry, they can never be replaced, can they? But when I am upset, I just hang out with my chickens. When you are ready, try a couple more, if you want.
