Like any job, it had its pluses and minuses. The creative side enjoyed matching papers and ribbons for best effect, and working out just what ribbon tricks would take a particular package from just "that's pretty" to "wow!" It was also kind of fun guessing what combinations would appeal to which customers. But of course, it meant dealing with people, some of which were pretty stressed and cranky. That was the place where I learned that "excuse me" basically means "get out of my way or you're going right under that counter."
