Now, that sounds like my dream job - right after jamming bamboo slivers under my fingernails.

Like any job, it had its pluses and minuses. The creative side enjoyed matching papers and ribbons for best effect, and working out just what ribbon tricks would take a particular package from just "that's pretty" to "wow!" It was also kind of fun guessing what combinations would appeal to which customers. But of course, it meant dealing with people, some of which were pretty stressed and cranky. That was the place where I learned that "excuse me" basically means "get out of my way or you're going right under that counter."

This is off the subject - forgive me. I have to know do other people find envelopes for greeting cards don't have any "sticky" on them? I mean - lick envelope - seal, only they do not seal! I tape them closed and no joke, they still pop open in spots.

I am thinking at my age, saliva must be missing some important enzymes or lacking normal fluidity . I have noticed this many times in the last couple of years, with Hallmark, American cards, Gift shop cards, Zazzle cards etc. It must be me.

Cards that arrive from someone else are sealed correctly. Is this just a personal failing for me?

I remember the late Erma Bombeck use to warn mothers about the necessity of "spit." You know - kids need a lick to tame "cowlicks," or clean the chocolate spot off their cheeks, etc. The worst thing to happen would be a mother of several kids and dry mouth.

I can't put it humorously like she did but, it is so true!! I think the behavior comes down to mothers from observing cats & dogs - who always clean up their ofspring.

YES! So glad it's not just me DD. I've been taping my cards shut too, the stickum just isn't there any more (or not enough of it anyway). For as much as greeting cards cost, the least the companies could do is put a bit more glue stuff on the envelopes.

You can find pre glued envelopes now. There is a strip to pull and then press to seal. No saliva involved

I can find (and do buy) business envelopes with the strips but can not find greeting cards like that. And it's not just a problem on cheap cards either, I've had it happen with Hallmark, Leanin' Tree, etc.

super quick update (gotta go work)

1st my mom wasn't completely alone yesterday, her sister stayed with her for 3 hours. ..very nice. Sister though is leaving for a one week cruise today.

So, my dad:

Even though they took out a big chunk of esophagus. . 2 inches below collar bone and up, is all that was left, the rest removed... (so, fro stomach up to that point was taken out )... they did not have to use any small intestine or colon. They took his stomach and cut it in 2, making the stomach into 2 tubes that were then sewn together.

He is in intensive care until this afternoon. He talked to me on the phone. ... super hard to understand him.. but then it was super hard for me to understand him before the operation because of his tongue cancer 5 years back. So... he sounds pretty good!!!!! Must be on a pile of pain meds, but to still have a functioning brain after a TWELVE HOUR SURGERY is pretty close to a miracle. Thanks bunches for all of the prayers.

I've been known to use the hot melt gun when I can't find the tape!

I bet that makes a very tidy looking package LG! Probably easier to open without messing up the paper too. I don't know how many reuse paper year after year but it has been happening with DW's family WAY longer than I've known her (which is over 28 years).

@drumstick diva, I don't know, deedee, I'm WAY older than you and my spit still works. Are you vitamin deficient ? I hear too much ice cream causes that.
