You are also telling the rest of us and in my case i haddnt a clue..... diffrent dogs ran their nails off....I hated quicking nails too, Diva, and really hated to do it to Fiona. But Fee was under anesthetic already, then kept groggy for the first 24 hours, so it was the best time to do it if we were going to. As I said, now that they have been cut to a manageable length, it will be easy to keep them appropriately short and never have to resort to that again. Oh, I may nick one accidentally while I work on them, but not deliberately. The quick recedes fast and then only grows to just a bit shorter than the actual nail so nicks are few and far between. Hers were just plain dangerous around Kendra and I just could not get through them myself. The key is not to get them long enough that quicking never needs to be done by staying on top of it. Fortunately she's not "tootsie touchy" and will just lay there quietly while I do feet. Next major project is to get all the excess fur out from between her pads and toes so her feet don't get like snowshoes. I've done it once already and she actually seemed to like it. Not having that nice arch often causes their feet to splay flat so they don't wear the nails down properly. We're doing that this weekend - wanted her to have time to heal completely first.
Um, and why am I telling you all this.....for crying out loud you've been grooming dogs without my input for a long time!I just didn't want you to think that I was a meanie and just did stuff like that willie nillie, with no compassion for the dog, or that I would ever do it or recommend it routinely.
I have to trim the rabbits nails soon!So true... our dog doesn't need his nails trimmed, but our goats do, about once a month... and our muscovy do too on occasion.![]()
This past weekend was my dad's 40th day after death.
So I made a Kohliva for him... cried like a baby while making it... Turns out that one of the saints commemorated on Sunday was Saint Olaf, a favorite of my dad. Somehow now that the 40 days is over and done, I feel more settled.
I was also trying to clean out photos from my phone... a couple of photos of my dad before death... wow, he looked horrid. The photo of him in the coffin... he looks good. And no, there was no makeup... it was just the relaxing of the face. No more stress or pain.
The Kohliva:
