My leukemia's back.

Well, I just posted, so I thought but it disappeared. If it posts twice, sorry!

Generator is something we are thinking hard about. Just have to figure out how to squeeze it in the budget.

Little girl was nice enough to share her sinus infection with me. Can't call out sick. With the 3 day weekend, it already puts me behind. Taking meds and headed to work. You all have a good day!

Outpost, hope you get to feeling better soon!

Good morning everyone

Drugs are good....

Hey, they allow you to function. Must be good, right?

Had a good trip up to see Mom. Her hand is healing nicely and she got a new splint.

I had a great surprise when I got home. I had set some Marans eggs in the little styrobator and really didn't expect anything. They were due to hatch on Sunday. They were from that blue ******* rooster, none of those eggs were fertile and I wasn't too broke up about it. Well, got home and one is partway hatched! I had not idea how long she'd been working to hatch, so I assisted. She's a cute little blue thing and running around the in incubator right now. I'm telling her to call out some sisters (have black sex link eggs due to hatch tomorrow) so she's not lonely. We'll see if she listens.

Great on the hatch..... Hopefully more will come.
My hatch of calls quit on me.
Yes the drugs that help us function are good. A little extra prednisone to allow you to have a good weekend is a good thing.
It'll help your G vs H behave itself too.
Glad you had a good weekend.....

Ugggh I know how you feel.
I came down with something too..... Feel like crap. Luckily no work for me anyway.
Hope you start to feel better.

Blargh -- the creeping crud has got a lot of folks from what I've seen around BYC........I'm a big fan of drugs in situations like that, lol. That is the downside of those nice long weekends, isn't it? Yes, three days off is nice, but it just means you have 4 days to do 5 days worth of work.......

A visit with mom is such a lovely thing -- sorry to hear she has had an injury, but glad it is healing well. I am SO enjoying being able to just "go visit mom or the in-laws" now -- we're about 2 hours from my mom and sister and about 5 minutes from the in-laws (not entirely thrilled with how that worked out, but it is what it is).

Congrats on the surprise chick - good luck on the rest of the hatch.

Sorry about the calls, Phil.

My last two hatches went bad.... Gonna hold off for a while..... Unless I find some interesting eggs at swap meet this weekend.
Don't know why y... Temps and humidity are rock solid. Both hatches since I bought the cradle for my brisea have been poor.....maybe I should go back to hand turning.

Calls are really tough to hatch. In addition to the extra week (compared to chicken eggs) there is the problem of the nature of the birds themselves. Good calls have short bills, and that seems to make them particularly prone to hatching problems.

The national call duck club used to have all sorts of useful information on their website about hatching, but when I looked at it just now, it seemed all they were interested in was getting new members.

Oh, well. This page of feathersite has a bunch of links, some to some long-time Call fanciers; maybe there are some useful tips to be found that way:http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks/Calls/BRKCalls.html

Phil, perhaps you could find a seasoned call breeder who can give you some mentoring. Seemed that Sally Sunshine talked about being prepared to do a lot of assists with calls. I've never tried them, but... I'm not too proud to assist with my incubated chicken eggs. IMO, incubation is at best an artificial method. And the best attempts by man with a machine can not match hatching as God intended it, so... assisting goes with the territory. When I do assist, I make sure the chick has plenty of air, then let it cook for a good long while in the shell before helping. Then... depending on what I see, I either complete the job, and float the chick out in a bowl of warm water (kind of like peeling a hard boiled egg) or open the shell a bit by increments and see what the chick can do on her own. Almost all of the time, waiting a long time seems to be key. Gives the yolk and blood vessels time to absorb. Those stressed chickies seem to be slower with both issues.

I really haven't wanted to post this, but denial can only take you so far.......

Some of my byc family remembers I was diagnosed with leukemia in June 13. I did all the chemo and had a clean bone marrow in Feb 14, indicating remission. Well, that didn't last. My labs started dropping and I had another bone marrow biopsy, it confirmed I'm relapsed. I go back to OHSU in Portland on Tuesday for induction chemo again. This means a 4-6 week stay, 250 miles from home :( . It's going to be quite a challenge for my family. My honey's having a hard time not being able to be with me, but he's got to hold down the fort at home. The boys aren't happy, of course, but at least we've had some warning this time. After Induction and some more chemo, they'll be looking for a bone marrow donor since I don't have appropriate siblings. This whole process is going to take a long, long time.

I know God's got my back with this, and it's His plan no matter what happens. It's just hard being so far from my family. And then even when I can come home, I'll be immune compromised and have to live like a germaphobe again--most of you know I'm pretty much the opposite of that!

So, I'd again encourage anyone who is able to donate blood. Not specifically for me, but for everyone like me out there who relies on a transfusion to keep going.

All my friends who are praying folk--your prayers are always accepted! For those who aren't praying people, feel free to start any time :hugs .
