My leukemia's back.

I love the pics Rachael! Looks like you guys had a great time.

I had a busy day! Went walking this morning then cut some firewood (log splitter:love). I just love that thing. Keeping my eyeballs peeled for free firewood. It's so expensive around here. Our furnace can't heat the whole house and fireplace was not meant to heat the whole house alone either. If electric goes out, which it does frequently in winter, all we have is the little fireplace. Thinking about getting a generator......thinking about the money they cost too! :th

Outpost, after a 9 day power outage and then one year later 'Hurricane Sandy' and a 11 day outage we bit the bullet and bought a generator that will run the whole house. After 3 days without a shower the Princess would no longer snuggle with me.

That was unacceptable. Love my/our generator.

and that was my out loud giggle for today

I'd love to have a generator also, but we really don't have that much call for one here thankfully. Our place is so tiny, we heat with wood exclusively anyway. Honestly, between the boys and the dogs, we could probably go on body heat alone

.

I'm married to a firewood guy, though. A splitter was one of our best investments ever. And everywhere we go, it's always on the lookout for wood. Driving anywhere can involve a stop for a log on the side of the road. My boys were raised thumping around the woods in the truck to get wood. One of the issues with moving is going to be moving the firewood stash.

I'm going back up to my Mom's tomorrow, her follow up on her hand is Tuesday and I want to be there. Then back home and working some for a week while the regular Telehealth nurse is on her honeymoon. Lots of driving, but I need to spend time with her.

A friend and I are gearing up for a chicken sale later this month. We're thinking to get together in a parking area and sell birds in one day, vs running ads on CL and dealing with folks coming out over multiple days. I'm making some little coop signs to maybe sell also, and we'll see what else finds it's way into the van. I figure if Im going to sit and sell, might as well clear out some stuff, right?

Hi all  :frow . Sorry long time no see.....

Honey had vacation this last week. We went on a day trip with the boys on the weekend, then did stuff around the house, then he and I took off for a few days on the coast. He caught his very first salmon, and I got to sit on the beach for hours and read a book and eat fudge---how great was that? Livestock auction today, I bought a pen with 4 hens and a little white rooster. I really wanted 2 of the hens (Faverolles and brown Leghorn), was happy with one (young barred Rock) and indifferent about the other (maybe hatchery Wellie, maybe mixed breed) and did NOT want the little guy. As I was transferring them from the sale cage into my crate, I just kind of called out "anyone want this cute little rooster?" and some lady was all over him  . I was thrilled not to have to bring him home, she was thrilled to get him. He was probably thrilled to go with her, cause here it would have been snap his neck and feed him to the piggies....so everyone called it a win. Except the piggies, I guess, but they don't know they're missing out so it's all good.

Outpost, how's that hen's eye? I had kind of a similar thing a few months ago. Hen had respiratory crap, gave antibiotics....she got better, but the sinus abcessed or something. She had a huge hard knob between eye and beak. A friend came over and we did a huge incision and drainage into the poor bird's head. We got so, so much crap out of there, I thought she was going to go into shock or something. Fully expected her to die. I wish we'd taken pics. Slathered bag balm on it, put her in an isolation cage for about 2 days then she was stressing out being by herself. That was about 2ish months ago, I think. Now, I honestly can't tell which hen she is. No scar, nothing, and we had her open a good inch long, just this gaping hole to dig all that solidified pus out. I mean, I'm a nurse and I specialized in wound care before I got sick, and I was a little sick at how far we dug into her sinus......the recovery was amazing. So, if she's not better, maybe you can find someone to help you incise that?

Phil.....I'm trying to come to terms with the breathing thing also. Like I told you, I had to bump up the prednisone while on vacation. It's funny, I was so highly motivated to get off that med when they put me back on it....now, I'm more okay wiht it. don't get me wrong, I'd love to be off. But it makes me feel so much better.....why not stay on? I mean, what are mood swings, checking your blood sugar, injecting insulin, mood swings, thin bones, mood swings, crying jags, screaming meltdowns, oh and did I mention mood swings? when compared to being able to breathe :gig

I'll get on my phone and add some pics from the coast....

Your preaching to the choir. I get the double edge though. Cuz the study helps me walk better too. My biggest problem is serious chronic inflammation. And I can't take..... NSAIDs....well prednisone works better.

Actually they make a lot of cheap smaller generators that will at least keep you in power when you need it.
They might not be big but will work for critical things.

We bought our generator after a 14 day outage/ice storm. On day 3 we could drive 1/8 mi. to the state route at the end of our road, and all houses had power. We waited for an other 11 days to get power, and finally broke down and bought a generator on day 11. Of course hard to find, b/c of all of the folks who were without power at the time.
