This may hit TMI, so the guys here just feel free to skip this post, but most of you ladies will understand. I'M GOING TO RIP MY FREAKING BLADDAR OUT!!!!! Seriously, it's been a week. Still spasms, not getting more than 45 minutes of sleep before the incredible pressure apparently 2ounces of urine puts on me. Literal back to back toilet trips. If I weren't worried about prolapsing or something I would have just taken a pillow and propped myself on the toilet last night lol. They said push fluids, so I drank 5 liters of fluid. I'm sure it helped, but man I'm sick of this.
I am so sorry.
So they have decided it is a viral UTI?
so.,.7-14 days and then they will treat with antibiotics?
How many more days do you have to go?
They did a culture and found nothing at the time, could some opportunistic bacteria have taken up residency since then?
Go fuss at somebody.
They won't know how bad you are if you don't fuss.
Give me their number, I 'll fuss.
Who is your advocate? Is your mom able to call your doctors and fuss? Is she on the hipaa forms?
I do know how miserable it can be, and you do not need that. You need your rest.
How do you treat a viral UTI with antibiotics? Antibiotics don't kill viruses. My first guess would be bacterial UTI. Because of your condition and treatments, I would not be surprised if it was fungal. I hope you get some relief , hopefully soon.
Viral UTIs are notoriously hard to clear up, because they are not the usual bacterial invasion. They are more common in folks who've had stem cell transplants or have otherwise had their immune systems compromised or shut down in preparation for transplants. Cidofovir is usually the drug of choice to treat them, and since sometimes viral UTIs lead to additional bacterial infections elsewhere in the urinary tract they can be combined with antibiotics. Kendra (my 3 year old granddaughter) and I get them more than we like, simply because we both use intermittent clean catheterization. Ours are usually bacterial, but we've both had our share of viral UTI's as well. Kendra even suffered through her first fungal UTI, and that one was a wooly booger to treat!
Go ahead and rant, Rachel! Those UTIs are miserable - they let you know they are there 24/7! We're not just here as eye candy....we're also your long distance support system!
