My leukemia's back.

If sour wins, can we be his cabinet advisers?

Why, of course.

So True! Speaking of work, I'd better get ready for work.

Anyone who has had day old chicks shipped to them, please educate me......I should be getting 25 from Meyer sometime this week. Temps are said to be low 20s at night & high 40s in the day. I did not order disposable heat pads, or any extras. Do you think they will be OK? Should I call Meyer & arrange for a later ship date? They are about 4 hours drive time from me.

Morning JWB, you might give Meyer a phone call and ask them what they think. Maybe the body warmth of 25 chicks will be enough? Or maybe they automatically put something in the box for warmth? I've had chicks shipped to me but it was always in warmer weather (April) and maybe different hatcheries do things differently.

Have a good day at work!

For a 4 hour drive, I'd go get them. If you have them shipped, be sure to have them held at your post office for pick up. Be sure they put your telephone number on the shipping box, and follow up with a phone call to your PO, telling them to anticipate the live shipment, and to call you immediately on arrival, no matter what time it is.

When I picked up my first batch of chicks from the PO, it was 19 below zero and rather than being delivered on Wednesday, as the tracking indicated, they sat in the sorting dock in Casper, then had another 6 hour drive by truck in that weather. Our postmistress here, Jan, was helping me track them down, and once she called Casper and was told they were still there, she told them to put a note on the box for the driver to put the chicks in the cab. Bet he loved listening to that cheeping for 6 hours, but he did it, and when the chicks arrived the note was still atttached to the box. I'd ordered 15 - a couple didn't make it but MyPetChiicken was terrific about it. Sounds gross, but we could tell that the dead chicks hadn't been dead all that long, so I think had the post office not messed up I would have received 15 live chicks.

K. I'll call them Monday. Lazygardner, Wish picking them up was an option.......but I cant. I work 8am-5pm Monday thru Friday and 8am-12pm Saturday. Yes. Six days a week. Only.day I'm off, they are closed. Hubby will be here to intercept them when they get here, but he is on meds that would unable him to make a 2 hr drive, let alone an 8 hr (there and back). I'll see if we can pick them up as soon as they reach our post office. I'm sure they will be eager to get rid of the noisy box! To us chicken people, it's like music! :D
