I took the neighbor kid "Miles" out fishing yesterday.... We caught a bunch of Bluegills and Crappie.... Enough to feed a large family... So it was good..... Although my motor a started and ran fine this time.... First trip out i had to pull start it.... But after spending three hours tearing the starter out and rebuilding it.... it worked great. I did however have to reload the boat as it was on the trailer all cockeyed the first try... Kind of half on half off..

Great pictures - what a lucky kid to have someone like you willing to take him out for a good day of fishing!

I'm sorry your hatch wasn't what you expected, Rachel. Doggone it! I had better luck with this batch of shipped hatching eggs from @RubyNala97 than I anticipated....9 out of 14 that went into lockdown hatched. Katie got to watch the last two and she was thrilled! I had to assist one (gulp) but she seems to be doing great, aside from one foot with curled toes.


Katie eyeball to eyeball with a brand new just hatched baby!



Look at her face!! She said, "Next time I see a bird or a chicken flying I'm gonna remember what hard work it is to get born!" We had 2 zipping at the same time, and they were racing to see which one would pop out first. The silver one beat the little yellow one by about 3 minutes....you can see that one zipped but still in the shell. She gave one mighty push and there she was - she didn't even zip the shell all the way around!


The crew...what I'm going to do with 8 Silkies is beyond me! We had 9, but we came home from Billings yesterday to find that one of the little yellow ones had died. I wasn't very surprised - it hatched with unabsorbed yolk and was looking kinda puny when we left.

Wow.all I have to do is try to keep up with Y'ALL on a phone and you get chatty.
We are headed to the corning museum this morning.
After moving our son from his third floor dorm, all I can hope is that the are no stairs.owie owe owie.they we so steep we had to go up and down on our tip toes caring stuff...about 20 times two days in a row.
How did he collect so much stuff?

I will try to catch up when I have a larger screen.
My eyes are not used to this low humidity. How do you guys keep from drying up and blowing away?

The low humidity does take a bit of getting used to. I use more lotion, moisturizer, Chapstick, nasal saline then I ever did before. Changed my hair conditioner so I wouldn't get so much static. Drink lots and lots of water, helps with the altitude too.

Once you are used to it, you'll love it!

Family can make or break your life - but they can only do what you allow them to do. So do what you've been doing so well up to this point - focus on your immediate family and let the outer ring take care of themselves. I have one daughter in my life that I can't be in the same room with - and a lot of times we clash just being on the same planet. <sigh> I love her, but I don't have room for the garbage she seems to have attached to her feet. Wouldn't be so bad if she left that garbage attached, but she always feels the need to share and throw it around. Nope, got no time.

Thanks LG....know what I learned from all this? I ain't cut out to be a chicken hatcher.

You're gonna have more broodies in your future than you can shake a stick at. Now... back to paragraph #2: You are a wise woman, and it's only one who's walked that path who can so succinctly draw the line to provide healthy boundaries in relationships. It's possible to love without allowing the poison to enter your life. The loving has to happen from a distance. My crystal ball says you're gonna have lots of chicks nest summer. My understanding is that while silkies make wonderful broodies, they aren't the brightest crayons in the box. You'll be spending all of your time teaching them: The finer applications of "Coop door 101".

I logged on and saw that I never posted my original post.
Oh well. The corning museum was amazing.
The science part was the most interesting to me, but the artist got compleatly overwhelmed .
We spent all day there and then realized we needed to make some driving distance.
If any of you have an opportunity to see it, you should.
