My Light Brahma Duke is a rooooo:) (PIC)

Affacat, I have two Buff and one Dark Brahma. I'll be honest, I think you're safe. It looks like a pullet to me. I had a Light Brahma that I found out was a roo. Thankfully the farmer we purchased them from agreed to exchange them if they turned out to be roos.

I think you're safe though. Keep an eye on the "tail feathers" be sure the tippy top ones don't start to arch over or grow significantly longer than the others. Also keep an eye out for a greenish sheen on the tail feathers.

Dannee- would you mind posting pics of Duke at different week marks? I think it's always helpful for others to have a reference

(can you tell I'm trying to sex a lt. brahma?)

Post pics. If he's over 8 weeks old, I'll betcha I can tell ya.

Can you post a pic? Gritsar is the one who told me my Duke had pin feathers...lol.maybe she can help you. I did not know that light Brahmas matured so much later than other breeds. He didn't do what others did at a young age....kept me guessing:)

Psst, he doesn't have pin feathers (well he does, but that's a whole 'nother story). The draping feathers across his back are called saddle feathers.

Strikes against me...really red comb- defined- three rows. Not huge though... spur bumps...
things in my favor- feathered in quickly (I had a very obvious marans roo @4 weeks to compare) no saddle feathers...yet? although they look pointy in the pics, the hackles look rounded on the tips in "real life"
So what's the official Gritsar word??? (I'm dying here! Such a sweetheart, and I want to keep HER!!!!!

Okay, spur bumps mean nothing. Pullets can have them too. In the LF brahmas, the real spurs take a very long time to develop to a respectable size.

I'm not anywhere near 100% on Pepper. He/she is awful red in the face for 9 weeks old, but I've seen redder. Yet the stance says pullet.

Afraid it's going to be a couple more weeks to be sure on that one.

I do have some pics that may help you. Here's Zeus at 8 weeks old:

Don't give Pepper away yet.
