I got afew golden lace polish chicks from a local breeder and noticed that one was a bit different early on. I did not expect they poor guy or gal to make it but the chick does just great it eats and drinks and is the nicest chicken that I have ever been around. A real sweetheart. Here is a picture. I just tought I would share my story.

Good for you! She deserves a good home!

Do you think it is a hen or roo? It welcomes all of the little chicks that I send to the coop after they are out of the brooder. Everyday when I bend over to fill the feed bowls it jumps on my back and then makes its way to my shoulder and just sits there til I am done.

That's so sweet. It's nice that you have a different chicken. It makes you look at some things differently in life.

I think this is absolutely wonderful that you are taking the time to give this bird a chance at life. There are a few out there that would have taken him/her back to the breeder or simply culled. It's made it this far. Look how beautiful it is. I also have a special needs Golden Laced Polish, Little Bit. Little Bit was born with very crooked toes and couldn't stand like her siblings. I tried splinting her feet which, to my dismay, made her very stressed and caused her to stumble around even worse. So, we removed the splints and started really paying attention to see if we could notice anything else. We thought brain damage or something along those lines. Turns out she's blind. She kept bumping into the walls & every now and then would find a buddy to touch until they got to the food & water. So, as long as I keep the brooder the same without moving anything she does perfect. Little Bit is 3 weeks old and still going strong even though the buddy she used has gone about his way with the others. We have discovered through BYC that Poli vi sol can be a great asset. It has worked wonders for her toes. Who knows maybe it will help her eyes. No one ever said miracles can't happen. I wish all of the luck with your special bird. What is it's name?

What a specail little bird you have too. I have learened so much on this site as well and I have used the vitamin drops you meniond and it has worked well. I call my beaker my "special needs bird" but it is doing great in the coop. I did make sure to tell my kids that it might not make it and if it didnt that atleast we gave it a good life but it is going strong. I think I am the one who is most attached to it. lol I do enjoy seeing beaker every morning noon and night, it comes running to me now when it sees me coming.I am happy to have such a little character in my life.

I've explained this to my kids too. That even it Little Bit doesn't make it at least we provided her with the best we had to give her and the most important is she is not is in pain. She is so happy all the time. She chirps and purrs. We have to call her and talk to her before we pick her up. My kids were bad about just reaching in the brooder and just grabbing her to hold her. She would scream and screech like crazy because she had no clue what or who had her. They understand now that she has to know who it is before you touch her because she can't see you. So we talk to her and wait for her to turn to our voice and then touch her toes. If she wants to be held, she will try to climb on our hand if not, she'll try to peck. There's just so much personality packed in all of my birds (57 of them) but Little Bit has the most. She's very special to us. I can tell that beaker is special to your family as well. I'll try to get a picture posted of Little Bit for you to see.
