Last Tuesday afternoon my favoured drake Wist was killed by my dog Simon. Ive created a new album for Wist

Im just shattered. Still cant believe this has happened. The dog was on the chain as he always is when the birds are out. Just a few hours before I was taking photos of the dog sleeping with the chickens, and he broke the chain once to get to the chickens! I think he wanted Wist because he was my favourite and he is a jealous dog. I have told the family if he kills again he is back at the pound, Im willing to see this as an accident - I dont think he truly meant to kill or understood what it would mean. Im trying not to isolate him too much but I did not speak to him for days.

I miss my Wistapew, all day.

"Again"? Your dog has killed before?

I'm sorry for your loss. It's never easy to lose a beloved bird. :/ I hear so many horror stories of pets being maimed or killed by family dogs, it's gut wrenching and horrifying all at once. Sadly, if your dog has broken a chain trying to get at your birds before, I really don't think this is a one-time incident.

By again, I mean after this. This is the first time he's killed. He was very bad when we first brought him home but never aggressive, just playful. He lays quietly now while chickens jump over him and other ducks fossik around him. He only wanted Wist. He has broken my trust now and it will take a lot for me to trust him again. He is wonderful with the children.
I got the dog because of fox problems. He is magnificent at protecting us that way - by now I would have lost the entire flock if not for him.

@Kleonaptra , I'm sorry for your loss. That's never easy.
