My live chicken house cam

I think they rock back n forth when they fall asleep, its strange.

Scott, way to go! Would you be so kind as to post your equipment list (card/cam)? We have a hen that crows every morning, along with the rooster (for a few years, now). I've a bracket up for the Sony 510 vid cam, but I can never seem to get good shots of both seems like your setup would do the trick (good resolution).

Thanks for posting this (good to see someone else running Folding@Home).

Take care,

John

WOW! How neat is that!--You can watch them and make sure all is well at the same time!
All are roosting but swaying with their snores!-LOL!
Neat work!...PS_hope they dont tear up your camera!

That's really cool, Scott! I like your chicken cam. I'm thinking about getting one for mine too, as our coop will be around the side of our house, down the hill a little so it would be nice to be able keep an eye on the chickies. If I do, I'm going to have to go with something wireless and solar powered. Is your cam wired or wireless?

The resolution is actually set very low because the pc running the software is very old, 1gig celeron and 512 megs of ram.

ok im using a Picolo pro 2 capture card "4port" and i catcher console.
http://www.icode.co.uk/icatcher/

They do a special software for wildlife or proper cctv sofwtare called console, im using console because i have home cctv and the chicken cam is 1 of my feeds ive made public.

The camera is a cheap infrared camera from ebay, altho i did make a mistake and it was cmos camera not a ccd. If you get a camera make sure its a ccd chip and has a wide angled lens "2.6mm or 3mm"

I have set the software to record for 7 days any motion made. The videos automaticalyl get wiped if ther eolder than 7 days, you can set this to what you want. you can remote check the feeds and playback entire sessions. If you want to check playback options please goto http://www.scott-h.co.uk:8080 and click playback.

Thanks, Scott. I'm using a P4 as dedicated video capture/encoder for many hours of analog, can put it to use for cam as well. Have tried a couple of hacks with older (cheap) webcams but the quality was less than adequate.

Take care,

John

I have a vx 1000 and a viewsonic wv5202 webcaam, the viewsonic matches my sharp cctv ccd security camera for day footage. i catcher picks all webcams up.
