My Louie-duck flew away! :(

I thought about the moving thing too. Is there someone there who can watch for him? A roommate or whatever? I just have this feeling he'll come back after while. (It's just a feeling.. lol.)

As far as a time frame... I don't think there is one.

I live alone, and I'll be selling this place, possibly to someone who will then rent it out, so I guess I can ask if they'll watch and let me know, but I wouldn't count on them actually doing it. One of my neighbors is nice enough, I guess he might keep an eye out, but honestly he's always weirded me out a little bit and I'm not sure I want to give him my phone number. :\ I suppose I'll just drive by every day and look like a creeper, lol.
So you think he could seriously not come back until, say, June or July (or even later)? Gosh, I wouldn't even recognize him anymore...heck I probably wouldn't even by now. Of course I guess he'd be the only duck hanging out in the trailer park, lol.

You would recognize your Louie Boy! I'm just hoping he comes back in the 2 week time frame. Lest you be a creeper. lol. Keep checking the lake for sure. And who's to say he doesn't find a girlfriend and comes back early!

look at it this way if he comes back great

if he dont then you raised a fine boy and know in your heart that out there some where he opened his wings flew out and ventured to see the world and in it he made you a grandma

with loads of little louie's and louise's flying about :)

I know when my one mallard had flown off, i had no idea where he was or where he could have been, but he dose come back and walks around on the concrete, I hope he finds a lady friend :)

So I checked the lake again today, still no females in sight. Struck up a conversation with a woman who told me she was there often and it'd been at least a week, maybe close to two, since they'd left. I guess that means if Louie is guarding his girly and her eggs, it'll be another 2-3 weeks. :\
Another thing I worry about with him is that they say when the males go into eclipse plumage they lose the ability to fly for a few weeks until all their feathers come back in, and he was already starting to turn before he left. If he has continued molting, that may delay him being able to return. :(
So anyway, the woman at the lake today said she had turned a couple of babies loose about an hour prior because she couldn't keep them anymore and thought they'd be okay with the other fowl around (not sure why she thought they'd be okay considering they're forecasting FREEZING temps tonight, but whatever....) She was worried because she couldn't find them already, so I helped her look & we found them hiding just inside a culvert. I ended up burying myself knee-deep in the mud trying to get to them, so much that she had to pull me out, lol, but we got 'em, and she let me take them home. Meet my new rescue babies <3

I'm SO glad I was there and found them. Three week old ducklings surely wouldn't have made it through a night of freezing temps, right? Assuming something didn't get them, since they can't even fly away from predators.

Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure this is Louie's first birthday today. Happy birthday Louie - momma loves you and misses you and hopes you come home & meet your new little ducky friends soon!!

What a wonderful thing to happen to you. they are adorable, and I hope Louie gets to come home and meet them, I cannot believe some people that she would even consider dumping those babies. Thank God you were there to save them.

Cymbaline, you are a wonderful person! I hope Louie comes home to you and the new babies very soon!

I do hope Louie-duck comes home soon,I couldn't deal with it if ever my Daisy flew away. I'm glad you have babies you saved & I'm glad Louie will have buddies when he gets back!
I really don't get how people think setting these "free in the wild" AKA dumping them, is a good idea. There's so many other options...

Especially at such a young age on such a cold night! I really don't think she meant any harm, just didn't know any better, and she was worried when she couldn't find them and she helped me catch them, but still...if you're going to have a pet I believe you should educate yourself and take care of them, and if you can't then you should find them a proper home.

Cross your fingers that these little ones are both girls - Louie will be delighted! lol
