And so, my egg saga either begins or continues, I really don’t know. This morning was my early morning up. was the day to slaughter two 17 week old cockerels. Dang birds! I don’t know why they all can’t be nice and gentlemanly. Hmmm! Kinda sounds like I could be talking about humans, huh? :lau:lau

Anyway, back to ducks! I think it was Hillbilly who said something about the ducks covering up their eggs. Why in the world? There’s not a single predator in the duck house!:barnie So, I had looked early this morning and then DH looked later this evening...there was nothing. Just while ago I went to stir up their straw with the pitchfork and something told me to be careful where the goonies had made their little nest and I’m glad I did. There was a cream colored egg underneath the straw in the “nest.” I suppose that is where they plan on laying their eggs. Fine by me. It’s easy to reach.

It may not work, but it’s certainly worth a try with chicken eggs in an incubator! <rubbing greedy little hands and laughing maniacally>
I have found an old thread in the best poultry web-site:
And i found another one on a not so good web-site:
An another one, that is so "scientific" that i forgot what i was searching for after just reading the title…
Is that even written in English? 😜 - However if you open the result tables, it seems that the influence of the incubator temperature is irrelevant for the f/m rate. At least the results are inconclusive, within statistical white noise.

And while searching i found this about a total idiot very talented artist:

Ducks are ducks! - Mine know all too well that those large blue bags that i am hauling from the shed to the patio are no duck-eatings monsters, yet any time they see me with one of these bags they all take off screaming »The end of the world is here!!!« …
Only to come running to the patio immediately and demand a sample of their cat-food.
I guess i have to borrow the neighbors cat for a day, just to see some dumb-struck duck-faces when they see a cat eating their cat-kibbles. Hmm, better not! I'm afraid for the health of the cat, i imagine Blanca and Bazilla each pulling on one ear and Earthquack trying to swallow that tail "worm".

I really wish i'd be able to slaughter! - Where did you learn that?
I love fried chicken, roasted chicken, grilled chicken, chicken soup, …
And you can get a rooster chick for a dollar (!!!) at Meyer hatchery with what they call the »FRY PAN BARGAIN« - Offered the neighbors to build a huge tractor and order 100 chicks, i raise them, they slaughter, we process and make 50/50 on the birds. Their answer: No, too much work, can buy a chicken for less than $5 at SaveALot…
:barnie Dang!~ Now i'm hungry again!

There was a thread on here a while back (I’ve honestly lost track of all time because of this Covid crap) where a woman incubated an egg under her boobs — yeah, it was for real. And now seeing your post above where a man tried, I can only imagine where his eggs were tucked away! :lau :lau :lau Yep, total idiot was correct!

Our duck pool for the old ducks bit the dust today. When I brought out the new pool for them, the young ducks were terrified of the purple duck eater I was taking to the old duck Pen. They ran into fences and flew into trees. No injuries. The old ducks just wanted me to get the pool filled.

Two of my favorite people to watch on YouTube regarding dispatching and butchering chickens is John Suscovich and Joel Salatin. They both have a bunch of different videos. John Suscovich is my favorite!

I don’t have processing equipment other than a kill cone. I snagged DH’s turkey fryer for my scalder and I either hang them on a tree to pluck or lay them on the table to skin. Then I also eviscerate them there on the table I have set up for the whole process.

The two I did today about killed me. They were both full of pin feathers that were a booger trying to pull out. I gave up on one and skinned it, but I was able to keep the skin on the other. Young, tender chicken grilled with the skin on...there’s nothing better!:drool Now I’m starving!

Yep, I can just picture that taking place. Kinda the same thing here when I brought in another PINK pool on top of my head. They all went berserk, running/flying for the hills!
