I’ve been reading back through @Mimi13 I’m sorry you lost your duckling:hugs 3 of my WH died of exactly the same symptoms just a bit more violent. I’ve got questions sorry if they’ve already been asked and answered.
did you order your ducklings from Metzer?
Which breed was she, the saxony?
I’ll keep reading ;)

That is Jessica, a Blue Runner. She's so hilarious. Runner's are definitely a favorite of mine. They are my precious babies and they are indeed hilarious to have around.

The mess ducks make with their water is definitely something that takes getting used to. One duck was messy. Three is down right filthy!! I mean... water to ducks is the best thing in the world, followed only my muddy water. Although snacks are a contender as well. They yell at me if I don't give them snacks. I love them all the same though.

Oh me oh my, I LOVE it. See, that is just precious to me! And, reminds me of here. My chickens and ducks absolutely rule around here.

I also love that runner. What kind is it?

Yes, I ordered six females from Metzer and I remember being so worried about their travel because I live in Alabama.

I drove a little fast when I got the call from the PO. Of course I peeked at them in the box as soon as I got in the truck. Looking back, there must have been a lot of peekers because one side of the box that had been “latched” showed visible wear and tear on it. I didn’t notice anything wrong with any of the ducklings when I peeked in, but once I got them home and placed them in the brooder I immediately saw my little Saxony was having difficulty. (She was the only one with an identifying leg band on.)

I tried everything I could and even contacted Metzer and followed their instructions, to no avail. Metzer was good and refunded the duckling’s cost.

I wish she had made it as the Saxony was really one of the breeds I wanted. 😍

This is my review it won’t show publicly though.

I warn anyone who buys ducklings from Meyer Hatchery in Polk OH. Actually the ducklings don’t come from them. They come from Metzer Farms in Gonzales CA. We bought 5 Welsh Harlequins. It took them 3 days to arrive. One was dead upon arrival. Another one was incredible weak and on the verge of dying. And a different one wasn’t looking too good. We lost both those ducklings within the hour after arriving home. There should have been a heat pack. There was no mention of a heat pack or anything when we were checking out! I give them one star because their customer service is pretty good and they felt bad about the dead ducklings. And we still have 2 alive. I even called Metzer Farms twice in hopes of figuring out why the ducklings died in case it was Duck Virus Hepatitis. I was trying to ask if the ducklings parents had been vaccinated for the virus, because if their parents had been vaccinated then the antibodies would have been passed to the ducklings and I could rule out the virus as cause of death. But the costumer service lady was very short and cut me off and told me to take it up with Meyer Hatchery. And of course you guys wouldn’t know exactly what they were vaccinated for! Then I called again and asked directly if their breeder pairs were vaccinated for Duck Virus Hepatitis instead of trying to explain the situation like last time. She was still unhelpful and told me no she couldn’t find out today and that it was tax day. But Meyer Hatchery you need to state at the top of the duckling page in huge print that these ducklings are coming from Metzer Farms in Gonzales California!!! I will not be doing anymore business with either of these hatcheries ever again. I am very disappointed in the lack of honesty and not putting the ducklings lives before any business matters. It should have been stated clearly that the ducklings were coming from Metzer Farms. Thank you for reading and I seriously hope that you will make changes for future ducklings and customers sakes.

I’m sorry you lost her. I think they had something going around at the time and still may be.

I was so nervous ordering two of our ducklings from a hatchery. I had hatched eggs from friends up until then. I worried until they arrived but fortunately for us, they were healthy and strong. I'm so sorry you lost babies.
Thank you it certainly was sad and it made me furious. It still does that’s why I respond to every post that ducklings show similar symptoms as mine did. I’m glad yours are ok though! What hatchery?
