My Love Affair With Ducks...

Pics
I used to say I had a ‘southern’ accent, which I have obviously grown immune to, but now that I’m hearing more of my dang voice I need to change what I call it! My voice is a slap in the face to the ‘sweet Southern sound!’

Since I no longer work out in public anymore, I have forgotten how I should sound and have just let my voice go all “caveman” or something. It’s awful.

Now putting my voice to the side (better yet, thrown away)...and back to your question!
I pride myself on being very intuitive, really! And my intuition tells me better. Those little peeping, honking, quacking baby ducks can spread no doom: only smiles, sheer love, and maybe a little sh*t! :gig

They are messy, I give them that, but I think that’s part of their appeal.:love Late yesterday when a pretty good shower came through, of course all the chickens ran lickety split into the run, but the duckies? NOOOOOOO! They were running around their run, like excited little children running through the rain and mud puddles. Watching them made me want to go out and join them.

That’s the difference in chickens and ducks - chickens are very fun to watch and I laugh every day at their actions. BUT, ducks! Ducks bring out the kids in us! Everything about them: their looks, their sounds, their waddling, their actions - puts a big old smile on your face!

You need to try one Ralphie!
That could not have been said any better!!! :love
come on Ralphie, give it a try and get some dux.

Here’s a new question.

Who keeps food and water inside for their ducks at night? I do not keep food and water inside my chicken coop, but since ducks stay up all hours of the night, do I need to keep it available for them? If so, I need to go ahead and begin digging a water pit to set their waterer over now.

My thoughts were they wouldn’t need water if they didn’t have food, but then what if they eat some of the shavings at night and then choked because I didn’t have water available for them? Dumb question or cause for concern?

And as always, thank you in advance.

They really need to have food provided 24/7 while they're still growing.
Once they're fully feathered around 6 weeks old they don't need water and food at night.

I used to really worry about that too.
in the summertime I worried the Cayuga ducks would get too hot in there little houses without water, plus I always give them treats to get them to go in at night.
I quit that water in the house business over a year ago. Way too much mess.
No one has choked and died or overheated yet.
I do try to let them out early in the morning before it gets too warm in the summer months.

Nice pictures..I could almost like that first Dux, if he never got any bigger and didn’t poo.
Awe shoot now! There’s always gonna be things we don’t necessarily LIKE, but deal with...even in people, right? It’s gotta be that way for the duckies too. I’ll just be honest here, I would much rather pick up duck and chicken poo before I had DOG poop! Am I right on this one? There is nothing and I mean NOTHING worse than stepping in a nasty pile of dog 💩. And I know, believe me! With seven dogs having access to MY YARD as their dumping grounds, I have to pooper scoop around my yard all the time.

Ralphie, get a duck!

Okay, good idea! I hadn’t thought of that. That’s what I do for chicks so I don’t know why I didn’t think of that for the ducks. For whatever reason, in my mind, these ducks seem to mature so much faster than chicks, but they’re still just babies.
