I freaked out a bit when Peaches Bailed The Pool. I thought she had hurt herself, but luckily NO! However, this bail out is the reason the netting went up around the high sides of the pool.

Of course it’s not electrified, as Ralphie might have wanted, but those little electric wire posts have come in handy more times than I can count.

Last Saturday afternoon I decided to open the fencing around the ducks and let them venture into the rest of the back yard, at their will. And yes, mingle with the chickens. It really went off without a hitch. The ducklings stayed pretty much alongside the fence once in the other side; however, the chickens took it upon themselves to raid the duck lot. Dear lawd, This Is The Party Place. The only thing missing was the keg! The chickens and the ducks paid each other no mind. I was pleased. But, what I didn’t like was how the chickens trashed the ducks’ lot like a frat party. I don’t think they’ll be invited back. It was such a rowdy party that Georgia Girl, my Barred Rock, was about to skinny dip! :barnie

For whatever reason, when I set the bigger pool up, Latte had a difficult time figuring out how to enter the pool, even though the others had no problem. She went round and round the pool trying to get in. And yes, I was going round and round with her trying to get her to go up the ramp. It was no use. I then separated the planks and made TWO ramps thinking that would help. Still no good. After 30 minutes of this round and round I went and got DH to come out and help me ‘herd’ her in...we were successful. This video was taken right after she hit the water and boy oh boy is Latte Showing Off!

Last video for tonight! You just can’t help but smile (and giggle) when you see just how happy a little pool of water makes a duck! It’s like watching a cat with a cardboard box. No, no it’s not...it’s 1000 times better, trust me.

Ducks And Water! They may be messy, but they’ll sure make your day. Come on, Ralphie, I know you’re smiling!

What has me smiling is that chicken over there watching the show. 🤣
Is that the same one that was standing on the ramp about to skinny dip?
I think it's got duck envy. 😝

:lau That is hilarious. Yes it is her. The crazy thing. I swear, I really think she thought about jumping in the pool last Saturday, which would have been bad. I have a mortar tub full of water, with some bricks in it, for the chickens to stand in, and they do. If my mortar tub was a bar, you could say I’ve got several alcoholic chickens. When it gets warm they all overwhelm the tub’s occupancy!

When I do figure out exactly where I want to put the duck pool (depends on if I can find a way for them ALL to live together and the chickens not destroy all the duck space/feed/etc.) I want to make a ‘trickle stream’ of river rock from one pool to another that the chickens can stand in and the dogs can lay in. However, this is all still only in my head. I’ve got to make sure I can make a strong enough filter, or two, to help with waste before the water recycles back to the original pool. I don’t want all my animals standing and laying in sh*t and sludge.

Duck envy! I think you’ve coined a phrase.

Isn’t this how everyone spends their early mornings before getting started with their day, duck loving? Four snoozing at my feet and one relaxing in my lap. Yeah, I’m sitting in their little duckie spot...on a towel. I really think Hershey enjoyed the special attention. She seemed content anyway. :love I know I was!
