My Lovely Lavenders!

What beautiful birds! I always wanted some Lavender's for breeding stock. Oh, I will be amazed to see the red rock crossed to Sinbad (great name by the way!) Please fill us in how it goes! Beautiful birds you have there.

Would you consider selling some fertile eggs in the spring? Your birds made my day!

Yes, that is my plan. I will put the lavenders in a coop by themselves next spring to be sure to get pure eggs. This batch now is a test batch but Sinbad seems to be very fertile, I think I put 21 eggs in the incubator and only 2 were infertile.

I think those are very pretty! I was looking into them myself
Did you enter them for the calendar? They are great pics!

Kind of new here so I don't know anything about a calendar contest. I just took those pics last night. My birds are really attentive anytime the mealworm bag comes out!

They are beautiful!! I do have a quick question if you don't mind...I have 5 lavender orpingtons that are about 3.5 months old (will be 14 weeks on Monday). What age could you really start to tell whether they were pullets or cockerels? I think I have 1 cockerel for sure, but I change my mind daily on the other 4.

I think he was probably 5-6 months old before I could tell for sure. He started getting the silky feathers around his neck was the first clue. Most of my hens have almost no comb, Chica has a pretty pronounced one so in the beginning I was not sure if she was a cockerel or hen. I actually had 2 cockerels to start with but one was a predator loss at about 7 months old.

Thanks for the info. Guess I will just continue waiting. I am allowed to have roosters where I live, but If I end up with more than 2 I will need to rehome some since I only have 17 hens/pullets (not counting the lavenders).
