My lovely yellow goldens.

If you're not hatching them, I can't imagine a reason not to eat them.

It's been a while since I ate duck or goose eggs, but I recently had an emu egg (scrambled it, if you're interested) and it was nearly all yolk.

Guineas seem to have a more chicken-like yolk / white ratio. Maybe it is a domestication thing?

My thought exactly! :) I'm also not too interested in shipping and selling. If someone wants to give them a go to hatch they can have some... though only one of the hens is laying now, and I think she's almost done too.

I find the duck eggs almost a little bit too rich to eat boiled but I'd imagine they make an amazing scramble as well! I'd love to try an egg from one of the larger birds sometime.

Maybe. Somehow evolution learned that the chicks will be provided food and don't need as much support when starting out. Would be interesting to compare chicken egg with jungle fowl. :) Or perhaps it simply depends on how "motherly" the different birds are?

All intersting questions, particularly comparing jungle fowl to modern chickens.

My success with shipped Chysolophus eggs hasn't been good, and that's been confirmed as typical by others here. I've done well with eggs where I was able to meet in person and not use the post.

But other than that, yeah. They're eggs. They're from your stock. Sort of like pheasant under glass, veal style. But with far fewer ethical concerns!

Now I want to taste pheasant eggs! 🥚

I am very happy to announce that breeding season is over in Peebles, Scotland, and that I have my pets back! 😁 😊
Prim has chilled out and is almost back to his normal self - I can pet and interact with the ladies, he loves his treats, it's all good.

Now just to wait for those feathers to come off and new colours to grow in!

Some soaked cornflakes made for a good, watery treat in our present heatwave.

I was honestly so delighted when Dandelion was "allowed" to come and perch in my arm today, I thought I was going to cry. 😅 I know I might be overly invested and that it might seem silly but they really are proper pets. I enjoy them either way of course, but I feel a lot of pride in the trust.

It's not easy to win the trust of a pheasant! :old
