My male dog won’t protect but will eat my chickens

Rather than telling you a long story that you're not probably going to understand about training your dogs I'm going to give you the best piece of advice there is about training Dogs!!

Watch every episode that Cesar Millan has ever made about dog training if you do that you'll be a professional dog trainer. U might even turn into a dog! :lau

I've been with dogs for the last 30 years over the last 10 years pit bulls from strong bloodlines. My male came from lowjack Remy-Martin, if you don't know that dog Google it!

Cesar will teach you how a dog thinks and how you could train a dog to do whatever you want. Unfortunately he/she is not going to start grabbing beer from the fridge for you and doing your laundry. But you will be able to walk your dog without leash call them to come to you and not act out of line, but more importantly be a well balanced dog!!

A lot of people think hes controversial and his tacticks don't work but it does.

Go online find some of his red-zone case episodes watch those first if you're not impressed with his tactics and what he's doing then come back here and call me a lier.. or anybody else that's dealing with dog issues!!

Personally I just got chicks and Ducks a month ago, my dog is still getting used to such small animals but training is going great so far!

Also keep in mind some dogs personalities have stronger prey drive if they have a strong prey drive it's in the lot more difficult. Still do able!
Cant say that I'd advocate Cesar Milan methods, particularly for LGD training

I agree, honestly, I wouldn't recommend his methods at all.
Michael Ellis is an excellent trainer and has many DVDs available that you could use for your basic training, particularly the first two listed here - http://leerburg.com/ellisdvds.htm
As Ol Grey Mare mentioned you'll also need LGD specific training, but you need to lay a good foundation first, before even attempting to introduce them to any of your livestock.

This isn't a stubborn gp, this is a dog that needs a solid foundation and then mentorship/leadership ongoing to learn his job

Exactly, LGD are bred to think and act independently, that's part of what makes them so good at their job, that they have a mind of their own.
Chickens4ever, both puppies should be taught a solid come, sit, down, stay and leave it, at the very least, concentrate on that before you start any livestock training.

Agree wholeheartedly with this post, exactly what I would recommend. Excellent website with lots of free info. Everything I've ever purchased from them has been excellent without exception. Michael Ellis is worth every penny. I found this site years ago when I had two female dogs that decided to try to kill each other after living together peacefully for over a year. This site saved both their lives and taught us SO much about dog behavior and dog thinking. Your dogs need lots of appropriate training. It's work, but it's worth it.

And what method is that you dont agree with? Bet you cant name any specific examples, probably because you haven't watched enough of this shows.

Anyone saying Cesar millans style isn't good doesn't know anything about dogs training.

Before Cesar got his show he was known as the go to person for dogs. And he make a killing doing thay because he was so good.

These other trainers teach you from a human perspective, Cesar does from a dogs perspectives.

I have had pit bulls that would come on my command while playing with other dogs. Unless you can do the same with such a stubborn breed your not quailfied to say who to use for dog training.

Like I said you can spend a lifetime trying to reinvent the wheel or you can follow the master. U will figure it out sooner or later!

He kows all of that but since he has gotten older he has slowly been ignoring most of the commands, and I’ve heard if he doesn’t do the command I want I walk away and ignore him.
