Hi all! I got some chicks on My Pet Chicken on May 8 - they are 3.5 weeks now. I ordered 2 female Wheaten Marans - but now that they are growing more I’m not so sure that they are both female. Attached are my photos, the darker one is also the largest out of all the chicks that came in my order. Could the darker one be a roo or a different breed? Thank you for the help!

I wouldn't bet on either being a cockerel at the moment. The first one may be, but Marans can comb early. Its coloring also suggests it...... well, I will say I would be really suprised if that chicken ever lays an egg.

Most places won't refund you until they crow, or close to it. So you've got some time.

Wheaten Marans are really easily sexed early. And I hope you wanted at least one cockerel.

The black/dark feathers is definitely a cockerel, and the tan/pale feathers is a pullet.

Wheaten Marans are such pretty birds- you’re lucky both ways.
