My marans aren't marans????

KAKBUCK, your marans look like silver marans to me, and if you dont get good blood lines, you NOT get very dark eggs, plus the more they lay the lighter their eggs get.

I have cuckoo, black coppers and weaten...........Good luck with your birds..............

I thought that silver marans hens were lighter? I dont really know myself. From pics I have seen in the past, they looked alot lighter in the neck. Im no marans expert, Thanks for posting the pic...............

I did get pictures taken tonight so you can see what they look like now. Some of them have changed quite a bit with their coloring as they've matured. I think they were about 15 weeks when the earlier pictures were taken (they're now 22-23).

If it doesn't work I'll go through and pull out the good photos. I wish I weren't so slammed this weekend. Life is hitting hard right now. I'm looking forward to some downtime where I can just enjoy my animals!

In order to decide I really need to see their legs. The blackish Roo and hen look like an attempt for Black copper but the neck feathering is wrong and the saddle feathers are black. But, in any case he would be a good cantidate to draw out the Black Marans which is on the Critical list in the USA. The Cuckoo pullets look like they are, but one of the pullets all I could see was part of her leg shank and it looks greenish.... although the coloring of the pictures is off. Try taking pictures outside and on a partially cloudy day the pictures tend to come out better.

But yes they are marans... how pure is anyone's guess.

The Cuckoo pullet has pinkish legs but she doesnt have a single comb.The black one has like a link with black over it. Could pic #3 be a mix of a cuckoo and Black copper?Is #2 a girl? I think she is but its a lot bigger than the other 2 girls
