My 'Memorable' Weekend - Photo essay

Love those pictures. What is your camera? I am looking for one to take distance shots and really good close ups.Mine does neither well.Nice blog too!

Thank you for the compliments! As for my cameras, Mattema, I have a Nikon D200 which I bought used a couple of years ago. It's a good solid camera but somewhat dated now (2005). However good shots really come from having good lenses. Any professional photographer will tell you to get a good camera but put most of your disposable income into the lenses. Cameras have quite a short lifespan really. They say they last about 150,000 shutter activations or until the first time you bump it wrong - that's me!! Lenses however, it taken care of reasonably well will last for many years.

If you'd look to get a camera any of the popular slr digitals will work although I wouldn't go for the bottom shelf. They are good cameras but not all lenses are interchangeable with them. Remember to ask about that. Another thing I'd consider is that even though you can get amazing deals with a good camera and one or two lenses that come packaged together ('kit lenses' they're called) just buy the camera only and upgrade the lens. Kit lenses are ok to start up with, however if you're serious about photography you'll notice their limitations when you start getting more creative.

Here are some websites that give great information on cameras and lenses:
www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/
www.kenrockwell.com
www.dpreview.com

To get close up shots you can get a macro lens ($$$) or you can simply buy extension tubes which are much cheaper and you put between your lens and the camera.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for checking out my blog! It's my new baby and I am having fun with it,
