I wanted to post some pictures of this week's project. It would have taken less time to do the 8' version because I wouldn't have had to think so much! I used pressure treated for the roof cap, pine for the body, and Douglas fir for the 2x2 frame. I used boiled linseed oil to stain it. I learned a lot and am excited for the next one.

I love it. That is just to darn cute and will look great in your yard as well.
did you make up the plans as you went or did you have plans to go by. Really love it. Might have dh do something like that for me be great to put the baby chicks out and let them roam around in freedom while I am out in the yard and back in the house when its time to go back in.

Thanks everyone! I bought the Catawba plans but it is an eight foot design. They are very well written and I'm happy with my purchase. I will probably build the full version soon. I had to adjust the ramp door size and then had to router out the ends of the ramp door since I couldn't affix rungs on the bottom two spots because it would prevent the ramp from closing. I also will use smaller gauge cable next time. The vinyl covered 1/8" is a bit overkill. I'm also slowly perfecting my jigsaw and router skills. Fortunately my husband pointed out that I was going the wrong direction on the router table. I think on the next one I will line the floor with linoleum. I wasn't sure about the boiled linseed oil but it does really bring out the character of the pine. I think the furring strips look very fancy with the oil. I'm not thrilled with the pressure treated top. I may just do the roof cap next time. The plan calls for treated wood on the top because that's what stays wet. I've been shopping around for other types of material and I like the price of fence slats so maybe I'll utilize those next time.
