My Mother's Cancer. She has passed. 1/28/2011

You don't have to label how you feel for anyone. We all know what pain you must be going through. We just walked through this with my SIL. Her mother was terribly ill from a heart attack. They had just found cancer. It was tough and we are still pulling her through the after effects of it. This is your mom and unfortunately all you can do is be there for both of them. I hope you father can accept some help. Hospice is not just for the ailing but to provide comfort for the family. I hope you get compassionate care and help for you mom and your dad. We are all praying for peace and grace for you family. You know where there is a huge group of people always ready with a hug if you need one.

I'm so sorry...

Sorry it is hard when it comes to that. My dad was the same way as my mom was passing. Only he could give her her meds and he wanted to do everything for her. They feel that is the last bit of control on the situation.

I'm sorry, Robin. After your email last week, I was afraid it was coming to this. You have been by their side since the very beginning. Dr. appointments, surgery, daily care, it's all been you. You are the daughter that some many parents would love to have.

I know how you feel about Hospice, I don't have a fondness for them either. If you can get them to come with the agreement that they are there to help only with household things or the things you and your father asks for their help with, leaving the hands on care of your mother to the family.

You need to talk to your doctor about managing your mothers pain. If you have to keep her unconsious to keep her comfortable, then demand that he do it!! If she has a port, it can be accessed to help keep her hydrated and given pain meds. You may be able to get a home health nurse come in and help you maintain the port. It's pretty easy really. I had to take IV antibiotics for several weeks when I had a bad infection. My husband hung me from the ceiling fain twice a day used different meds to keep the port flowing properly.

Shoot me messages if you need me!

She is back in the hospital with Plurasy and pneumonia (sp) Very hard struggle to get her breath and panic attacks now on top of everything else.
Prayers for grace and peace of mind would be greatly appreciated.
They are going to try and do a thorsetesis today and draw off some of the fluid compressing her lungs so that she can breathe easier. They intend to culture the fluid to see if there is infection as well. I'll update as I can.

Robin, we continue to pray for you. yes that pleurisy can be such a problem and painful. Words seem so empty at this time other than to say, we send our love, empathy and prayers to all of you... Nancy and of course Jac
