I think anyway. It looks like the pics I saw. Anyway, she has Sulmet. Is this an acceptable antibiotic to give her as treatment? Also, should she treat all her chickens and just toss the eggs or just the one who is infected? Her feet are still soft so I am hoping we can cure it without operating.

I found bumblefoot on both feet on my black sex link today.

I cut out the plugs, cleaned out the holes and applied neosporin and bandaged.

I'll have to pick up some pen-g and syringes, I don't think pen-g will flow through my insulin syringe.

What is the dosage and where is the best injection site?

Alright, I got the pen-g and the syringes. Now, if someone could tell me how much to give her and where to inject it....Rooster-Red may still need to know, too. I am just a tiny bit nervous about this....I have never given a chicken an injection.

Oh, I forgot to ask, how many days she need the medicine? Thanks.

I've never given any of my chickens with bumblefoot any oral or injectable antibiotics.

I usually clean out the wound, put topical antibiotics on it and if it is deep I put absorbent gauze and wrap vet that sticky vet wrap stuff until healed.

Never had a bird die or not recover from it.

Really??? Hmmmmm......I wonder which would be better? I don't like the idea of her getting antibiotics she doesn't really need. The bottle I got is good until 2010 so it's not like it would be a wasted purchase....I am sue I will need it before then.

Honestly, the only reason I ever give antibiotics to a hen with bumblefoot is when it is persistent and wont go away. I always have one or two with it and my heaviest hen, Meg, suffers with it in both of her big feet all the time. I do not normally give any meds to them other than the topical antibiotics or silver sulfadiazene cream in the wound. I treated one hen for a year off and on with different antibiotics and none seemed to do any good so I swore off them for her forever. She now rarely gets it anymore-I swear, that girl ought to glow in the dark from all the antibiotics she had back then!

Mr. Joy had really bad bumblefoot. He got dry gangrene in his toes and they shrivelled up pretty quickly.

Even after being on oral antibiotics he still had some tissue loss, we had to keep trimming until we got healthy tissue. Then it was epson salt solution foot soaks and triple antibiotic slathered under gauze and vet wrap. I had to keep his feet bandaged until they completely healed. He's never had it again, almost 7 years later.
