Nothing fancy so no picture but you will get the idea. So I have a movable coop with fencing on the bottom that is about 5-6ft by 3 1/2 ft. This is a rough estimate. There are three chickens and a duck in there that I let roam the yard during the day when it is nice, but the coop still becomes so dirty. This is due to water seeping into the hay, and mainly the duck poop. Ugh that duck... anyways he/she thinks it's a chicken so it works out. So we move the coop every couple of weeks... only to have it get just as nasty shortly after. Last time we moved it I put buckets on a peice of plywood along the back of the coop for the chickens to roost in/on so now they can get off the bottom if they want to. And when I say nasty I mean wet\bugs etc. Where their waterer sits, little centipede like bugs love to congregate and I am not sure how healthy this is for them. I want to get eggs from them eventually then eat them when their egg days are over so I want to keep them in a decent environment while keeping in mind that they are not pets... I'm thinking I should keep the hay away and just do the dirt that is under them. When we have dryer weather the bedding does not get as gross and I can easily rake and renew the bedding about every two weeks. I'm pretty sure the bugs are just drawn to the moist mixture of poop and dirt....

Also I found some grubs and was wondering if it was okay to feed them those. I gave it a try yesterday and they loved them!

So what do y'all do with your movable coops bottom? Especially if the sides are just a frame and fencing.... it has overhead cover.

Thanks. Sorry this is so long. I'm using my phone so its harder to go back and take out unnecessary or redundant information!
