My Name is Dandy-Am I a Roo?-Update-Dandy Found Dead

I am really excited about them. Even my husband says they are his favorite. I never thought I'd want to try breeding, but these and my blues may have changed my mind. I guess my RIRs and my original 5 ladies will become my egg producers and I'll breed the rest.

I agree with the others. The first one is a cockerel, as I already guessed and the other two are hens. All pretty birds and roos can be the most fun in a flock.
ETA: Have you noticed your little girls are feathered out better than the cockerel is?

Roos are definitely the most fun. They have so much personality and mine are friendly especially in comparison to my hen. My hen is scared of me but my roos will come right up to me. They are much more curious.

gritsar-yes, the girls are definitely more feathered out than Dandy. Expecially the one that is almost solid black (1st photo in the second group). She went to sleep in my lap last night and stayed for quite a while.

Lobzi-I'm glad to hear that the roo is friendly. I know Dandy seems to be, but never having had a rooster before, I was afraid that would change. That adds more fuel to the possibility of keeping him and doing a little breeding with the girls.

I must just have been lucky, dont know, but I have three roosters and one hen who has 3 peepers 7 weeks old that I dont know the gender of as of yet. ALL three of my roosters are friendly toward me and others. But I have read horror stories on here about others with very mean roos. I hope my luck holds.

Me too, Lobzi. I've been worried because I have 5 grandchildren from age 6 down to 4 mos. and I didn't want them to be injured or afraid of my chickens. They are part of the reason I got into raising chickens.

Yep, he is definately a rooster. Here he is at 13/14 weeks and he started crowing this week. He looks like he is trying to cough up a fur ball when he crows!
