My Name is Dandy-Am I a Roo?-Update-Dandy Found Dead

Sad news to report. DH didn't have to work today, so we slept all the way to 5:15 a.m. When we got up, I got in the shower and he went out to let the chickens out of their coops. I usually open the doors between 5 and 5:30 and most of the time they are all still on the roost, so it wasn't any later than they are used to.
DH came back in and said he had let them out. I asked if Dandy had crowed for him and he looked at me and said, "Dandy isn't gonna crow anymore!" He was dead on the floor of the coop!
I ran out to see and there he was, laying there while the others were out pecking around in the pen. I picked him up, he was still just a little warm, and stroked him. I checked for any signs of injury, parasites, anything I could think of, and there was nothing. I tried to see if his neck was broken, but couldn't feel that it was. It was just floppy.
This is my very first loss and wouldn't you know, it was my favorite little roo. I am so broken hearted. I was so hoping to breed him and have beautiful babies. I'm so glad that DH understands my heartbreak and didn't laugh at me crying my eyes out. I cried all the way to work and I'm still crying. Who knew I could get so attached to a chicken!

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I think my co-workers think I'm that crazy chicken lady. But they do know I'm tender hearted, so I think they get it to some extent. I explained to them that he was no different than a dog or cat in that he jumped up in my lap, on my shoulder, let me pet him for as long as I wanted, etc. Plus, he was just beautiful and I had such hopes of having his little ones to raise and sell.
I've only had chickens since last October and this is the first loss I've had, so it is difficult. We had new babies from TSC at Easter and all of them survived, much to my delight and surprise. I just wish I could figure out what happened to him.
