They say the first step to recovery is admission... so maybe I better stay in denial...I am NOT an addict, I am NOT an addict...

I went through the house today and while i was looking at an unused drawer in a dresser I thought to myself...could I turn this into a incubator??

Me too! But I was thinking nesting box.... Hello, my name is Celia and I am a chicken addict.

Hello my name is Jennifer.

The birds were my husbands idea. Just a pair of peacock. Wow, have you seen the ornamental pheasants. Ooohh, other colors of peafowl. Well now we need a chicken to brood eggs, and a rooster to keep them happy. Guineas, turkeys, ringnecks. Broody chicken didn't work, so need an incubator. Lets sell babies AND eggs...more chickens.

Meanwhile, doting wife (myself) is looking up how to keep everything healthy and finds BYC........

I didn't have to tell him about the chicks at the feed store yesterday, he wasn't there, wasn't going to be going into town anytime soon. Why do I have four more chicks in the brooders?!?

Its all the BYCs fault and the enablers who populate it!

Oh yeah, and the goats I traded for some pheasants and were going to re-sell are still here, also due to fellow BYCers "goats are great."

My name is Melinda, and yes I am an addict, just ask anyone who knows me. I have chickens on the brain 24/7. I have been slacking on housework, bible study ect., thought about having our family bible study outside with the chickens. It all started with I only wanted a few for eggs convinced DH of chickens, ordered chicken catalog found out you have to order 25:eek: Hmmm..25? what was I gonna do with25 chickens, I called my friend she said "sure I'll go in half with ya". Before I even received ordered chickens we went to the local stockyards I bought 11 Americana chicks.
One from the stockyards had cocci, it was a Saturday evening and local store that sold Sulmet was closed and would be closed on Sunday as well. Needless to say the little fellow didn't make it. My 25 cuckoo marans were coming in 1 day I felt so helpless, I hate losing animals. I startes having panic attacks followed be depression ( so unlike me, I am a strong, optimisic person always willing to lend a hand ) didn't know what was wrong with me. Doc said your doing too much.. slow down. So I took 2 weeks off work while starting meds and adjusting some, my little chicks were doing well, then neighbors dog killed them all, but one DEVASTATED! So called friend can you take one more he was lonely followed me around the house everywhere, if he couldn't see me he was chirping his head off. So took him to friend. And praise the Lord I'm back to normal ordered 8 more girls from MPC, then bought 2 silkies, and the next weekend bought 3 barred rocks. I wonder what I can find this weekend:duc. I love my chickens and they love me. And I am addicted to chicken love, Sorry for the long story.

Hi, my name is Christy, and, this is my first post ever on BYC. The reason I'm here is I check on my chickens every 20 minutes to see if they've laid an egg. I think I may have a problem.
