We had a feeling that something was going on. When we were let out, we did our usual routine.....ran first to the old greenhouse area and scratch that to bits, then, oh yeah! the hosta garden under the old oak tree! We had plans to decimate that! Mom would try to lead us into another direction with the cracked corn she had. Sometimes that worked and sometimes she had to come out with the big guns: grapes dappled with yogurt!

I, especially loved that!

We would sneak over to the back door and peek in - and see this!

What's going on? There are little ones like ourselves! And they're doing chicken things! Who are they? ...................Mom didn't say anything, and when she opened the door we just ran over to the other side of the yard and she followed and talked to us. She told us that there were other little chickens here and that they were to grow up like we did and enjoy chicken things like we do. And most importantly, we had to get along. So........every once in a while we would stroll over and peek in and see more of the small chicken stuff.

Mr Elf decided to freeze himself in one position so he didn't have to deal with those weird "fail winged" creatures. So he pretended he wasn't there. The chicklets didn't care. They wanted to know what was beyond that other door. Meanwhile we were at the back outside door watching them!

Thank you for posting and saying how much you enjoy the story!

to each and everyone of you! I've been observing this small flock for a long while and there is always some drama going on, which made me interested .....so ...I watch. *** OK - I'm channeling Pearl....hold on....................***

Those babies got bigger and bigger! They would hang out in the back room where we would come over to check them out. They would get on the chair and check US out.

AND they had names like we did.

Left to right: Charlotte, Maudette, Audrey and Tallulah.

Mom finally decided to put them out in their own run with our old coop and attached it to our current run. So we were together, but apart. This was good for us to get used to them. It went this way (without any of us getting out to forage) for a while. In late May we were all let out to forage the backyard and figure out our status etc. We treated the younger ones with respect and discipline like we should....Oh a peck here and there was expected. We all got along fine. Then eventually Mom had us all together in the "big coop". But she made a hole in the run into the other run so the "babies" could come in to the big run and the big girls could go into the baby run and they can get to know each other and have more space to run around during the day. AND get acquainted.

This was the connection she made:

But we got along fine, every once in a while there would be a chase here and there, what fun! Those babies got bigger and started to hang out in "our" run when we went walking about.

The nerve!

They are beautiful babies! OK I am a little nervous-I don't see Charlotte's name in your signature line. Am I going to need a Kleenex like I did with Gertie in a future installment?

This is a really fun story, Luna! I can't wait to see what happens next. Although I'm a little concerned about how things will go with Charlotte....
