My neighbor is complaining about my rooster :/

You can relocate the Roo for awhile. Then download an mp3 of a rooster crowing and play it over and over with a large speaker out the window. When he comes over to complain tell him the rooster is gone and you think he is crazy!

Wow! I couldn't get any farther than the sixth page of posts. There is so much nonsense on here. I live in a rural area. My rooster caused a woman to complain because she works nights and he wakes her up during the day. Same problem different time frame. I told her to move somewhere that doesn't allow farm animals.

I am sorry but if chickens are allowed, roos included, then that is just tough for the neighbor. Let's say it was a yappy dog instead of a roo. For those of you telling her to get rid of the rooster, would you say to get rid of the dog too? Ridiculous. We all need to deal with things in our lives we don't like. Our neighbor has a dog that barks every time he is let outside to do his business, no matter the hour. I don't like it but I deal with it. Why should I ask them to change their lives for me? What makes me so special? Same with the neighbor, she should do something that would greatly upset her to make the neighbor happy?

Should the dairy farm down the road sell all their cattle because the "smell" aggravates a neighbor? There was a similar complaint about horse owner a township over. The smell from the manure of the horses was bothering a neighbor and the owners were told they needed to do something about it by the neighbor. Ridiculous! Just for the record, the horse owners about died laughing.

As far as "retaliation" from neighbors, that is true. It could happen and you know what? It is AGAINST THE LAW. Maybe hefty fines, a little jail time, and their name tainted with animal cruelty charges would keep them from doing it again.

I believe you are wonderful to try to help the situation but if you try everything you can and it all fails, then at least you tried but don't rehome your rooster for a neighbor that apparently feels the world should cater to him.

I am sure I will get a lot of backlash for this post. I very rarely post on a topic so that's a shame but not everyone will agree I suppose.

Hello All

Funny... I like to hear my Rooster crow...

The other morning it hadn't started crowing yet,,was 5:30.. I got up,, went outside to the coop and got him up. Took him outside and showed him it was light.. Their door is open all night, with a chain link gate for protection..

By the time I got to the back deck, he was at it..

My neighbor says he likes to hear him crow in the morning.. LOL

Friends of mine, their neighbor called By-law Enforcement because the frogs in their pond were too loud... They live in the country.. He told the by-law guy to tell whomever it was that called to move back to the city and to the by-law guy to Take a Hike..

The By-law guy knows around here also knows better than to knock on my door or he'll be escorted off...

He once threatened to cut my lawn and I threatened to take a pick axe to any piece of machinery that rolled onto my property..

If it is legal to keep your birds,,and he isn't feet from your coop tell him to deal with it...

If anyone killed my birds, there would be a 45 gal drum of Roundup in the garage by end of business day and his entire lawn and everything living would look like Scorched Earth by end of business the following day...

Try to get along with your neighbors, but if you are within your rights,, tell them where you stand, be apologetic,, and Especially don't take any crap from the county Yahoos.

I enjoy pointing out to By-law enforcement that **MY** property is actually None of his business and that by coming over is a waste of gas and time for him, and he'd be better off spending that time more wisely at the local coffee shop ..

You could bring him inside over night in a cat or dog carrier that is just low enough that he can't get his head back and up enough to crow.

We have a very Serious case of "Yuppy Syndrome" around here...

The city scum that moves out here call the Police if a farmer is tilling too late or if their headlights shine in their windows.. LOL
We get a good chuckle out of that....

Yet their cats roam freely,, get caught in my Konibears all the time,, their dogs bark all day long while they are at work and also run around constantly..

There is one that's going to get spray painted with contractors Blaze Orange with a white target over the Boiler room (heart/lungs) next time I catch him.. I think that will send the message...

I lucked out. We started with a couple of very bossy Rhodie hens, so when we added our cochin pullets and one turned out to be a cockerel, the Red Ladies took care of it. The first couple of times he started to crow, the Red Ladies pecked him. I can't tell you how many times I found him curled up under the roost hiding from them! Now he's taller than my knee (and I'm 5'7") and the smaller Rhodies are still calling the shots.

At this point, I don't hear from him until dawn, which is apparently when its fine with the Red Ladies to crow! And since I raised our other two cockerels in the coop, the Red Ladies trained them, too. Very polite boys we have here, lemme tell you!

And most importantly, none of my neighbors, despite only having 1/2 acre each can hear ANY of our boys! Apparently, their teenagers have trained them not to hear anything before dawn. *grin*

So far so good..but I am waiting for the day he may say something and I am ready with my recording of his annoying power saws

PS I sure do love the sound of crowing!

Sorry about the issue, you sure got a lot of opinions on this one. I am all for keeping the peace and not making everyone angry...but geez...he lives where they are allowed...so sad, too bad...adjust I guess!
