My Neighbors Little Dog Is A Threat?!

bwindell why not post the dog for free on craigslist? Its very obvious your neighbor does not care. You are the one actually suffering from all of this while your neighbor is off doing who knows what? I wouldnt even bother to take time out of my day and try to work and train a dog that is not mine. Im sure if you really wanted to... youd get your own dog, right?

So the more chances you give this predator and your neighbor the more risks and danger you are putting your flock in. Yes you might have saved the duck this time.. but what if the dog comes around and kills just 1 or all your flock when u are gone?

I am so sickened by this! You should be able to do as you wish on YOUR property. Truely free range your flock and Im sure youd love to not have to always be worrying if this rottie is coming over or when it will.

But if you insist on letting her come over... You might as well kiss your lovely flock good bye. I dont mean to sound harsh but that's the way I see it. Its either your flock or this predator.

The solution SHOULD be quit simple. Eliminate the dog. But the situation is not that simple. If we were dealing with a normal rational person, then telling him I am going to shoot his dog if he doesn't keep it on his property, should have taken care of the issue. My first TWO calls should have taken care of the issue. A visit from the Sheriff's office should have taken care of the issue. But the dog is still an issue. Our fear is retaliation. I kill or remove his dog, we leave one day and he kills our birds.

We should not be in this situation. We should have the right to raise our birds in peace, but there are crazy people in this world who think they are above the law and can do as they please no matter what they or their animals do to others. In attempting to prevent an all out neighbor war, we are trying to find other solutions. At present, the only thing we can come up with is to chain his dog up in our yard every time she comes on our property. If he wants his dog, he will have to walk onto our property and unchain her. I think the biggest problem here, is that he has yet to face us and discuss the issue to our face. It's all been done by phone. Is he a coward?.. yup, I believe so. Most bullies are and I feel as if we are being bullied by this guy and his dog.

We had a family reunion today and left at 9:30 am. We locked his dog up in our outbuilding. We just arrived home at 6:30 pm after stopping on the way home to purchase a yard stake and 20' of chain. She is still in our outbuilding. He has not come looking for her, nor will she be home tonight. My husband will be letting him know where his dog is at, but HE will have to retrieve her. Our hope is he will tire of having to walk all the way over to our place to retrieve his dog, and eventually restrain her on his property. Don't know if it will work, but hoping it will...

I like the Rottie rescue idea-- but this guys sounds like he would just go out and get another dog....Maybe you could get a guard LLama they are effective against dogs and can even kill them if they do not retreat....

That's where you're wrong.... what you classified as "normal person" is not actually that common anymore...

Dogs around my hens always make me nervous. Our neighbors had a German Shepard, who, was, indeed very mean. But he didn't bother our hens, as our neighbors don't let him run rampid around the neighborhood.

Then we had some new neighbors move I across the street, who, while I was away one night, was letting their dog run around and chasing my hens who we're free ranging. Luckily, my mom shooed them off, but I would choose chickens over dogs any day.;)

Exactly BantyChickenLuv, My hens were free ranging when my little Spicy was attacked and killed, but thankfully, Gus hasn't been on my property since. The last time he was, he was happily trotting back to his house with a huge rat that took up all of the space in his mouth, and by now, my hens have attacked my cat, squirrels, rodents, even crows! And we got 3 eggs yesterday!

And bwindell, You have EVERY right on the PLANET to free range your hens! It is unfair that that faceless coward is not locking up his dogs and is just letting this problem proceed! On behalf of all of us, we will want to know what we can do to help. Tips, answers, anything. You just let it out. And I would give him a hard face to face talk when he comes to retrieve his dog!

bwindell, you don't have to tell the neighbor what happened to his dog, especially if you fear he's one sandwich short of a picnic. I wouldn't. Things happen to dogs who roam, just a fact of life. Who knows if it was hit by a car or someone picked it up and took it home with them? It's obvious you are going to have to make that dog disappear and keep quiet about it.

I am an honest person through and through, but if my family is in danger, I would do whatever it took to rid myself of the problem. The only kicker would be that folks like that usually get another dog and they are no more responsible with that one than the first one who disappeared, so you'd most likely have to make another one or two vanish before they gave up on dogs.

Disgusting situation, for sure because it's a crying shame that the dogs always have to suffer for their neglectful owners. I heard of someone who got a recording of a shotgun blast and when the dog was at their house, they cranked up the volume and played it, along with the recording of a dog yelping. That fixed their issue finally.
