We brought home 5 two month old Royal Palm turkeys today. Hopefully we get a pair out of the 5. So far they are doing great. They are in the kennel with our 10 two month old RIR pullets. The feed we were told to buy was Turkey Chow. Its medicated starter amp .0125% BMD 50. 30% Crude Protein. We were told that the pullets can eat this as well until they are moved to the layer. Is this correct? Is the protein level too high for our pullets? The pullets are on Starter/Grower right now. Any thing else we need to do or keep an eye on with the turkeys? Thanks.

That is a good feed for the turkeys but I have seen problems in chicken chicks on 28-30% feed. They sometimes get pasty butt from it!

Your new birds look so elegant. Good luck with them.

I learned that pullets from six to 14 weeks should only have 16-18% protein in their feed, so the 30% would be way too much, unless it is stretched with scratch grains or something. I would be unsure about how to do that exactly. Then other nutrients may be off. Is there any way you can partition off the pen so each group can have different rations?

Was told yesterday by the feedstore here that feeding chickens the turkey / gamebird mix is ok but to add calcium to the chicken feed by adding a oyster shell feeder to their side of the coop and that will keep the eggshells walls strong

Thanks for the replies. I think I am just gonna stick with turkey starter for now because I should be moving the pullets to the big yard in a week or so.

Do the poults look like they are 2 months old? older? younger?

Can I give them treats like I do chickens?
