I received my new baby chicks yesterday. I was very excited and had to show everyone at the Post Office!

This morning 2 of the 9 were not well. They were lying by themselves off to the side.

Thinking that they my have been too small to get up to the waterer I gave them some through an eyedropper, and added a jar lid of water, and put them back. An hour later one is well and playing with the others an one is not. She is just lying on her side and doesn't want to open her eyes. I got her to drink a little more water, but she is just sleeping.

Any ideas for nursing a weak chick?

Thanks,
Mommakaren

What is the temperature in the brooder? 1 week olds should be kept at 90-95. I would dip her beak into the water every hour if you can. Also if you have it there is a product called "Save-A-Chick" or "GroGel" that has electrolytes for shipped chicks for the first few days that can give them an additional boost. Fleet farm or a co-op should carry it. Good luck!

Have a silly question ...But what of kind baby chick is it this you have on your picture here {the white one}...???
