My New Barn

Fabulous, Michelle! It's my dream to have ONE huge building with pens coming off of it, but we want ours to be concrete block to be cooler in our very hot, humid summers. I'm so happy for you!

You guys are awesome!

It is built just about like a house, except no interior walls, so in theory, it would be rather comfortable

We are going to the hardware store today and look around, I need to make some decisions.

A free standing utility sink or a cabinet with a sink. It would be really nice to have one deep sink and I am putting in some old cabinets with a counter top so I have somewhere to set the incubator. I am also adding upper cabinets so I can store medical supplies, vitamins, cayenne pepper, etc.

So much to do, I think I need a 2nd cup of coffee

I added

cabinets

to mine for storage too ~
and I have a deep utility sink in my basement that I really love - it is a huge old one though, double basins with concrete lining. I've seen newer plastic ones, they are considerably smaller - look for the biggest and double sided is nice.

Wow!! That's great, and fast! How exciting for you guys. To bad we wern't closer, I would totally be there with stapler in hand to help put up that chicken wire!
Are you going to put anything on the floor or leave it cement? I can't wait to see it all set up!

Wow, it was just a couple days ago we were doing the final walk through with the builder and now we're already tearing holes in our new walls

In case you haven't been following along, the builder left these great spaces under the windows for the 3 pop doors but when the door got here the fully assembled unit was 2" too tall

So tonight, with about 7 parts excitement and 3 parts regret, we trudged to the barn and set to work cutting new holes in the inside wall board and chiseling out the foam insulation.

Tomorrow I'm going kayaking so there won't be any progress till Wednesday at the earliest.

More of the birds tried to roost in the trees tonight, I don't think we can get this finished soon enough for them.

We are having a strainer basket and lid made for the floor drain, the interior pens will have shavings on the floor, the people area will be kept as clean as humanly possible in a house full of chickens

We are puzzling out some hover roost and other interior designs to make it both functional and easy to maintain.​
