Today we worked on lighting. We hung 6 2-bulb fluorescent fixtures inside for pen lighting. We already have 2 4-bulb fixtures above what will be the people area that are on a switch. The pen lights will be on a timed circuit to allow for 14 hours of light a day in the pens.
The pen lights will be timed to coincide with natural sunrise, so the roos won't start crowing while my neighbors are sleeping. Also, the interior lights will be on after dark, so the birds can be chased inside by the natural sunset before the doors close for the night. The pop doors are also on a circuit but they will be adjusted to work with the natural light outside.
Since the short days around here can be about 4 hours long, we are installing outside lights so I can see in the runs when it's dark just in case I need to.
My super-talented work crew thinks of just about everything. I have exterior outlets too so I can plug in the dog water and anything else I might need to.
And since it is dark when I"m going to and from the barn for the next 6 months, my super wonderful BIL brought me a yard light he no longer needed at his house and now my yard can be seen from space
That sucker lights up the whole 300' between the barn and the house.
