We just use hook and eyes to keep some of our coop and run doors shut. They are cheap and easy to install. If it's a door you can walk thru, you may want to put a set both on the outside and inside of the door if you don't want birds escaping while you are in there.

GREAT JOB! The best part of pallets, never ending free supply!!! I try not to drive by the place we get ours, cuz they will have some I want, then we spend the day getting pallets to store
I don't even have any plans for more coops at this point.
I wish I could come up with a way to close the doors on all the coops at one time
I just can't figure out how to do it easy. They way you have yours is what I really wanted, but that would just not work in the middle ones very well. I think I will try to do something from the inside.
I need to update the pic of our progress. New Birds will be here Wednesday or Thursday and the babies need to go outside last month LOL
I don't seem to find a picture of the dividers we put up, but they fit under the coops between the legs. We also had to put some boards under the legs of the pallets (the ones that came with the pallets) to prevent coop hoping
I didn't think it was funny when I was under there putting them in that tight space.
OK so I made some more panels to cover the back under the coops. I used a pallet top and the cutoffs from the fencing to fill in the holes.
Pallet top before
after
Then I just screwed them up. The sides had to have a slightly smaller top. I have them in 3 sizes so that was very good.
I have a few gaps to fill in but not to bad.
We added welded wire to the top of the runs. We had to add some nailers to the top to keep predators from getting in, but no big deal.
Closer view of the nailers to secure the wire to
We also added some boards to the front wrapped in plastic since they are on the ground, makes it stronger and keeps everyone on the right side of the fence when we added the chicken wire.
added more boards top and bottom to attach the fencing to after this we added 2ft of chicken wire
We already had the doors made, picked up some hinges and today we got the outside wall up
can't tell you how happy we are that the end is near
Covered the chicken wire in the runs with gravel, I will be sore tomorrow.
Here is a view inside the run
We are expecting ANOTHER 2-5 inches of rain (I think the 3rd round of big rains since we started) so we will continue working but in the shop.
We will make the ladder/ramp things for them to get in the coops. I am going to make some moveable roosting poles for the runs. We are going to shop for some kind of locks for the coop doors and the run doors, but for now they are screwed shut on the runs. Need handles too... that will be another run to habitat. We are also going to try to make the pvc pipe feeders tomorrow. May go to the dollar tree to see about a pan or something to hold the feed. If not we have some empty jugs we can use, but hubby wants something that will hold more feed or two pipes so we will not have to fill them as often. Low maintenance that is what I like.
We held off on the nipple water system til spring. We were afraid it would freeze. We are going to add a rain barrel now so we can have water at the coops.... should have put that up today with the rain coming
I think there will be more....
Anything else we need to add? or change? or I didn't mention?
Any tips on moving these birds? Hoping that everyone will be ok with the new digs and new roo-mates. I think I might add some black plastic between the runs to cut down on poss fighting between pens too, what do you think?
Show me some of your locks. I am thinking cheap and mostly to keep predators out. This is a secluded area and you would have to know it was there. It can not be seen from anywhere on our property. Not too worried yet about thieves, but we have a driveway gate that can be locked if needed and will add cameras and motion sensors eventually... can you tell we are tech geeks too?
WHAT COLOR SHOULD I PAINT IT IN THE SPRING???? Red or Brown or what? Nothing that will stand out, needs to look normal for a farm.
